The Factory of the Future (FoF) team is a part of Global Quality & Operations and has responsibility for the design, development and support of custom and configured product manufacturing software. As a Software Test Engineer, you will drive the verification testing for software-based systems that support the manufacture of Illumina’s consumables products. You will work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Contract Manufacturers and other engineering groups to develop software test approaches for new product manufacturing automation and support testing for existing products.
This person will join a dynamic, fast paced organization supporting new product development teams, as well as sustaining operations. You will be adept at balancing multiple project priorities and will be able to demonstrate leadership and agility through technical and organizational change.
All About You
Responsibilities:
Work cross functionally with R&D, Manufacturing and Quality to develop and execute software verification test approaches for manufacturing equipment, automation and systems.
Assist software developers and domain experts in designing, performing, and improving verification tests.
Assist in the definition, capture and documentation of user needs and system requirements.
Demonstrated success in collaborating in a fast-paced team environment and delivering high-quality software products using established agile development methodologies (such as Scrum, Kanban, etc.) against formal schedules.
Utilize defect tracking and version control tools as an integral part of the software life cycle development process (such as Jira and Git).
Utilize SQA skills to write verification plans, test protocols, test reports, and requirements traceability matrices in accordance with the company's established SDLC methodology.
Manually execute test cases and drive the formal verification process.
Design and develop test automation scripts
Maintain awareness of industry trends and evaluate applicability of new software testing technologies to system development efforts
Work with software & engineering teams to ensure alignment of architecture and user requirements
Occasionally provide technical assistance for escalated production issues
Work collaboratively with external providers of automation and manufacturing equipment to ensure fit-for-purpose software that meets Factory of the Future and Illumina requirements.
Participate in software requirements and design reviews
Requirements:
Proficient with source control management repositories (such as GIT) and CI/CD practices
Experience with iterative development life cycle methodologies and application of those principles, especially Agile (Scrum) development practices
Experience with a defect tracking system such as Jira
Experience working with an automated testing framework such as Ranorex or Selenium etc.
Possess basic object-oriented programming skills in languages such as Java, C# etc.
Possess basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Possess proven troubleshooting skills
Have proven verbal and written communication skills
Be curious, detail oriented, and analytical
Be customer-focused, team-oriented, self-motivated, and take ownership of assigned tasks
Preferred:
Experience operating, testing, and supporting SW for instrumentation
Experience with Visual Studio, Eclipse, Ranorex
Experience with GAMP 5 and 21 CFR part 11
Experience working in a FDA regulated environment for Medical Devices.
Experience and understanding of basic automated manufacturing systems, tools and components (electrical and pneumatic control, sensors, metrology systems, PLCs)
Practical knowledge of manufacturing automation such as MES & SCADA
Experience with Test Driven Development
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Bioengineering, or other Engineering related field
1-2 years’ experience working in Software Quality Assurance.
