Basic Qualifications

 

Education/Training:  A high school diploma or equivalent required, a college degree in financial related discipline preferred; and/or specialized business lending education and training; obtain and maintain appropriate Bank Product Knowledge Certification; obtain and maintain active Nationwide Mortgage Licensing Registry (NMLS) and complete appropriate SAFE Act training.

 

Skill(s):  Excellent communication (face to face, phone and written) and interpersonal relations skills; consultative sales skills; proficient analytical and mathematics skills; above average attention to detail; ability to multi task; experience working in a team environment and developing relationships; working business acumen and financial literacy in business banking, including: demonstrated sales and portfolio management; a demonstrated  knowledge of the features and benefits of all bank consumer and small business banking—including deposits, loans and Treasury Management services; a working knowledge of bank operating policies and procedures, which impact small business customers; technical knowledge and proficiency in financial analysis; able to proactively lead, manage, motivate and coach associates to produce desired results; exhibits problem solving skills; PC and Internet proficient; valid driver’s license.

 

Experience:  A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ in small business banking or small business lending, retail banking sales leadership experience and/or experience in financial services, or business to business sales, normally required.

General Responsibilities

Responsible for delivering uncommon financial and sales results. Builds rapport with new and existing customers by utilizing the CARE Program process to meet and support individual, business and organizations goals while leading the Company’s market presence in the local community. Responsible for developing, expanding, managing and deepening small business customer relationships by identifying customers’ needs comprehensively and matching their needs with solutions and resources across the various lines of business.  Responsible for outbound business calling and providing consumer and business owners trusted and consultative advice.  Responsible to lead the new business development activities with particular emphasis on loan and core deposit growth while maintaining expense control. Demonstrates consumer and small business lending proficiency and maintain and active NMLS registration status. 

Must display principles of core values including teamwork, accountability, passion for helping others, communication, service oriented and continuous improvement.

This job classification is assigned to employees participating in a formal development program, that has a fixed time-period to successfully complete.  As a developmental position, Associates are responsible for learning and developing knowledge, skills and abilities of all small business banking and lending policies and practices; including new business development, small business loan origination, retail deposit relationships and client advisory services.  Demonstration of client advisor proficiency and the achievement of assigned sales goals will be evaluated at the conclusion of the development program and will be required.

 

Essential Duties

 

  1. Operations 

  1. Responsible for sustainable revenue growth, asset quality and profitability.

  2. Must also balance customer experience with Bank goals and values.

  3. Ensures all safety and security procedures are followed.

  4. Works to effectively manage the branch “book of business” for expanding customer relationships.

  5. Adheres to First United Bank & Trust’s culture and responsible for creating brand awareness through networking and branch events.

  6. Adheres to the Marketing department guidelines and branding initiatives.

 

  1. New Business Development 

  1. Responsible for actively building market share, wallet share and developing opportunities utilizing our CARE Program tools and planned outbound business calling strategy.

  2. Jointly establishes quantitative sales objectives with the Managing Director on an annual basis; this activity to be integrated with the regional market business plans.

  3. Proactively maintains a self-developed pipeline of small business customers and prospects for future opportunities with the objective of meeting or exceeding assigned goals. Supports the efforts of the branch Senior Relationship Advisor in maintaining a pipeline of consumer customers and prospects.

  4. Solicits new business from present and prospective customers; maintains ongoing business relationships with present customers in order to take advantage of additional cross-sell opportunities, across all lines of business.

  5. Sells appropriate small business and consumer products and services including, but not limited to, deposits, loans and Treasury Management.

  6. Manages a portfolio of small business loan relationships; including, but not limited to:

  • Maintaining customer contact program
  • Gathering financial data
  • Assisting in review processes
  • Maintaining credit quality
  •  


    1. Works closely with Small Business Credit Unit to obtain requested financial information for underwriting and credit administration purposes. Follow-up research and reporting may be required.

    2. Typically originates business loan relationships up to $250,000 (determined by market); loans above that size to be referred to Commercial Lending. Exceptions to this policy would require senior management approval.

    3. Serves as a member of the Bank’s sales team, proactively conducts outside sales calls; leading and attending as requested, group sales calls where types of calls will improve the opportunity for new business development across lines of business.

    4. Exhibits good listening skills and speaks clearly in positive and negative situations.

    5. Maintains up to date knowledge of all products, services, technology and regulations.

    6. Ability to balance business needs with customer requests while managing potential risk and profitability to the bank.

    7. Providing uncommon customer experience by adhering to the service standards.

    1. Actively participates in bank wide initiatives.

    2. Leverage these opportunities for business expansion.

    3. Provides sales coaching and guidance to associate for referral opportunities to team sales members. Grow capabilities of branch associates by providing guidance as well as developing individual career plans to foster a true trusted advisor culture.

    4. Recognizes referral opportunities and initiates introductions to other lines of business (Team Sales).

    5. Contributes to a positive working environment by developing trusting and cooperative relationships with customers and work associates.

    6. Mentors and coach’s others while providing constructive feedback to increase overall effectiveness.

     

    1. Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace.

     

    1. Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc.

     

    1. Communicates with the Managing Director, other office managers, and appropriate staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.

     

    1. Provides periodic reports to the Managing Director and other groups as required throughout the Bank.

     

    1. Participates as an active member of Team Sales group by attending and participating in the monthly sales meetings.

     

    1. Performs other related duties as assigned.
