Division Overview

Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HPS is deeply engaged in product solutions for OSP Communication utility purposes, and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HPS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HPS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas and water industries.

Position Overview


The Product Manager is responsible for all aspects of the protective relay product portfolio including the development of all product strategies and Multi-Generational Product Plans (MGPP).  Position will lead all aspects of their product lines new product development including product pricing, promotion and meeting aggressive annual financial goals for the business.  Activities includes facilitating product selection, business case vetting, project pipeline monitoring and project course correction.  


Duties and Responsibilities


Essential Functions:


  • Define and manage the product strategy and roadmap in accordance with Hubbell’s Product Development Processes. 

  • Act as a cross functional leader within the company promoting the strategy and product portfolio. 

  • Create a business case with financial analysis to support MRD/PRDs for new products including projected ROI based upon market projections.  Work with internal stakeholders to obtain estimated sales volumes and product costs to develop the financial analysis. 

  • Deliver Marketing Requirements Documents (MRDs) and Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) with prioritized requirements, features and corresponding justification.

  • Provide appropriate detail of the customer / market needs and use of the product feature set described in the product requirements document (PRD). 

  • Work closely with the Project Management Office (PMO) to coordinate and monitor the progress of new product development launches.  

  • Develop subject matter expertise with respect to the overall solution and each product’s capabilities in the portfolio.  

  • Plan and coordinate, beta, and pilot programs to support product testing that is compliant with the Hubbell’s product development process, including the determination of what customers best fit the product beta and rollout. 

  • Work with internal and external teams to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality products and services.

  • Set pricing to meet revenue and profitability goals and work with sales, finance, and account management to deliver a quarterly revenue forecast.

  • Assist in developing sales tools, collateral with the core positioning and messaging for the product portfolio in support of the Marketing Communications process. 

  • Support the development of marketing materials, product positioning documents, white papers, training documentation and trade show demonstrations for the assigned product portfolio. Participate in planning for trade shows and other industry conventions and events as needed. 

  • Perform market research to support the development of a Multi-Generational Product Plan (MGPP) for all products in your portfolio.  

  • Monitor competitor activities and collect competitive information. Deliver this data to internal stakeholders to support strategic and tactical business planning.

  • Support Voice of the Customer (VOC) activities by identifying new product needs of the marketplace from customer interviews, market research, competitive understanding, and market trends.

  • Manage the product life cycle from product introduction to retirement. 

  • Support sales teams and channel partners through the development of presentations, demonstrations, and other materials.  Develop remote demonstrations to support sales efforts. Support the development of proposal responses. Attend approved sales meetings with customers to highlight solution value and perform system demonstrations to show the functional capability of the system. 

     


Skills and Experience


Required:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, or equivalent related field/work experience.

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience as a Product Manager, with demonstrated success defining technical products.

  • Minimum of five (5) years industry experience in power systems and protection.

  • Experience performing market research and collecting competitive information.

  • Experience developing and monitoring a product roadmap and multi-generational product plan.

  • Ability to collaborate across multi-disciplinary functions (engineering, sales, operations, etc.).

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.  Solid public speaking skills; able to present ideas, conclusions, and recommendations with clarity to diverse business audiences.

  • Strong attention to detail, and excellent organization and time management skills.

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).



Preferred:


  • Master’s degree in Business (MBA) or Engineering.

  • Significant work experience within the utility industry, at a commercial or technical application level.  

Physical Demand:


  • Less than 50% travel. 

  • Team is headquartered in St. Louis, relocation strongly preferred, or travel as appropriate.
