Description

The Nuclear Pharmacy Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:


  • Store shield calibrate prepare and dispense diagnostic and therapeutic radioactive material.

  • Prepare in a sterile environment, the daily quantities and types of radiopharmaceuticals needed for the particular demands of the patient schedules by appropriate use of specific calculations and assay methods by the protocols specified by the nuclear pharmacist.

  • Monitor and assay and record all incoming radioactive packages by employing the use of proper calibration and monitoring equipment, report any discrepancies at once to Radiation Safety Officer.

  • Keep all records relating to procuring, receiving, dispensing and disposing of radioactive materials current and in an easy-to-read format for inspection by IEMA or other governing bodies.

  • Assist medical staff in conducting basic and clinical research.

  • Ensure adequate supply level needed for everyday operation.

  • Prepare and oversee the maintenance of nuclear pharmacy records, reports and radiation disposal logs.

  • Ensure the individual radioactive content and quality assurance of each radiopharmaceutical prepared for injection by means of a log-type record system, decay factor equations and solvent chromatography testing to verify the integrity of each dose dispensed, making sure each complies with minimum specific requirements.

  • Requires rotating Saturday shift for radiopharmacy coverage.

  • Split role between radiopharmacy responsibilities and patient care duties in the Nuclear Medicine Department.

  • Ensure compliance to USP 797 Sterile Product Formulation including environmental and biological controls, laminar flow hood microbial and sterile flow testing and environmental services cleaning.

  • Coordinate mandatory annual testing and in services for sterile product formulation, as outlined in USP 797, to all nuclear medicine technologist.

  • Coordinate the ordering and shipping of radiopharmaceutical unit doses to ancillary NM Healthcare sites.

  • Ensure DOT regulatory requirements, including training, for shipping radiopharmaceuticals to other NM Healthcare sites.

  • Supervise the preparation of unit dose radiopharmaceuticals shipped to NMH Healthcare sites, including personnel scheduling, radioactivity requirements, timely formulation considerations and extended quality assurance requirements necessary.

  • Assist the nuclear pharmacist in research projects by proper utilization of nuclear pharmacy equipment and materials to attain useful information for literature publication.

  • Assists the nuclear pharmacist and manager in the preparation of the radiopharmaceutical budget.

  • Coordinate quality control of lab equipment.

  • Act as a liaison between the radiopharmacy and ancillary sites with regards to radiopharmaceutical services and compliance with the Quality Assurance Program.

  • Monitor and inspect the physical condition of the lab and the operation of all the equipment for safe and effective use.

  • Facilitate staff understanding of nuclear pharmacy clinical and technical performance standards.

  • Facilitate staff training of nuclear pharmacy procedures.

  • Maintain nuclear pharmacy procedural manual.

  • Monitor and maintain purchase/inventory documents.

  • Maintain daily survey forms, order routine and non-routine medical supplies. Instruct and direct students of the School of Nuclear Medicine Technology by on-the-job training and didactic coursework to teach them basic concepts of the nuclear pharmacy.

  • Process all patient research data for Investigational New Drugs by means of extensive record keeping to ensure the exams conducted are within the guidelines outlined in the paperwork submitted to the Food and Drug Administration.

Qualifications

Required:


  • Bachelor's degree with clinical training in nuclear medicine.

  • Graduate of a JRCNMT accredited program.

  • IEMA licensed.

  • ARRT or NMTCB Certification.

  • Must be able to manage the patient safely and effectively during the procedures performed with the limitations of the patient's cognitive abilities, psycho-motor skills, emotional stability and sensory capabilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience in clinical research and the operations of a nuclear pharmacy.
