POSITION OBJECTIVES:

The Lead Discovery group within Global Biologics Research at Takeda Boston is seeking a Biochemist/Cell Biologist/Immunologist with extensive invitro/cell based assay development experience to progress small/large molecule programs into the clinic. The successful candidate will also independently design and implement experiments to address mechanisms-of-action of therapeutic molecules. The research scientist will also be responsible for participating on matrix project teams, interfacing very closely with members of the Global Biologics/ IO/Chemistry/GI/CNS/Rare Disease teams.  

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Provide broad assay development support for early stage drug discovery projects in the field of IO/GI/CNS/Rare Disease

  • Responsible for executing high throughput screening of selected cell line panels for sensitivity to targeted drugs

  • Collaborate with automation engineers to identify suitable approaches to utilize laboratory automation for the execution of variable cell based assays

  • Design, execute and validate a variety of assays to understand mechanism of action of compounds and characterize different biologics

  • Spends ~ 85% of time in laboratory to maintain and implement cell based assay platform and perform experimental assays.

  • Interface with project teams to meet timelines for project progression

  • Present research findings clearly and effectively at internal and external meetings

  • Troubleshoot complex problems in creative and effective ways and actively participates in innovation and/or optimization of established processes to ensure delivery on project goals 

EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:


  • BSc/MS in Biochemistry/Cell Biology/Immunology with 2-5 years of relevant experience, in early stage pharmaceutical drug discovery

  • Team player able to liaise across multiple disciples including Automation, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Compound Management and Immunology

  • Self-motivated, collaborative with excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Skilled in analysis, interpretation, and presentation of results

  • Experience with  mammalian cell culture with best practices in tissue culture is required

  • Hands on experience with automated platforms

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to work in cross-functional project teams

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Manual dexterity required to operate office equipment (i.e., computers, phones, etc.).   

  • Carrying, handling and reaching for objects up to 25 lbs.

  • Working in a lab environment: standing, walking, bending, etc.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Willingness to travel to various meetings or client sites, including overnight trips.  Some international travel may be required.

  • Requires approximately 0-5% travel
