POSITION SUMMARY:

The Corrosion Technician will operate and maintain the cathodic protection facilities through planning and implementation of corrosion control activities for pipelines and storage facilities including design, installation, operation and maintenance. The Corrosion Technician must also ensure compliance with company policies, procedures as well as federal and state regulations.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Responsible for all activities related to corrosion control and pipeline integrity.
  • Perform Annual Survey, Atmospheric Corrosion Inspections, Isolation and bond testing and rectifier Inspections with Allegro and document findings on the PCS-CPDM. Develop any mitigation plan.
  • Troubleshooting rectifier units, remote monitoring units, and low potentials. Performing interference testing: foreign and facility. Identify grounding shorts, possible AC fault conditions and areas of AC interference prepare/approve any design mitigation, overseeing installation, and performing as-built drawings for installed facilities.
  • Design, install, operate, and maintain cathodic protection facilities, power lines, galvanic anodes on gathering systems, mainlines and storage facilities.
  • Supervise contractor on new rectifier, ground bed installations, Close Interval Surveys, cable run and J-Box installation.
  • Monitor the condition of the pipeline through pipe-to-soil potentials, visual inspections, various tests, measurements, and surveys to ensure efficient operation of cathodic protection facilities.
  • Document all related work associated with performing and maintaining regulatory compliance and operating and maintenance procedures. This documentation will also be followed for non-regulated infrastructure.
  • Prepares drawings, job specifications and contract bid documents.
  • Prepare and present the corrosion data for the annual corrosion review.
  • Prepare and participate in federal inspections.
  • Inspect new construction/modified facility's and document updates and/or changes to the appropriate files.
  • Mentor fellow employees when the opportunity presents itself.
  • Assist in preparing the Annual Budget for corrosion control.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of Corrosion control experience.
  • NACE Cathodic Protection Technician (CP2) minimum, other NACE certifications a plus
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of company policies and DOT regulations
  • Will be required to obtain and maintain all company and regulatory required Operator Qualifications.
  • Understand and operate all corrosion related instrumentation
  • Working Knowledge and methodology of ACVG, DCVG, CIS, Current attenuation and mapping.
  • Working knowledge of environmental and safety aspects of coating projects
  • Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems
  • Proficient with computer skills (MS Office, operating systems, company software, and technical systems)
  • Basic Math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, etc)
  • Ability to estimate installation, operating and maintenance expenses associated with corrosion systems.
  • Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work independently with minimal supervision in an acceptable time frame.
  • Ability to successfully work in team environment.
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Safe work practice and active participation in the safety program.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Technical or associate degree in a related field or equivalent from an approved and accredited college or university.
  • Minimum NACE certification required is a CP2. A CP3 certification is a plus.
  • Experience in all phases of corrosion control and pipeline integrity.
  • Working knowledge of corrosion related portions of NEC and NACE standards.
  • Working knowledge of company policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of the Allegro field computer and PCS software.
  • Proficient in the use of standard office software applications.
  • Able to work independently with little direction.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and written.
  • Willing to assume responsibility and take initiative to resolve issues.
  • Strong ability to lead and teach others.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills demonstrated through training, formal education, and/or experience.
  • Working knowledge of PHMSA 49 CFR Part 192/195.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Must be able to withstand extreme weather conditions.
  • Must be able to frequently, climb to and work from elevated platforms, excavated areas, ladders, walkways and walk to task being performed.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions, and ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist (occasional).
  • Ability to use hand tools and equipment, repetitive hand use such as simple grasp and twisting motion included.
  • Will be required to sit for long periods of time entering data and preparing reports.
