Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Scientist to join our Measurement Science Team. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and global R&D. This position will report to the group leader in Measurement Science.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Interface with internal and external technical personnel as a technical expert in mass spectrometry and chromatography with emphasis on GC/MS


• Cultivate technical excellence within the Measurement Science team to support Ashland’s growth strategy


• Compile, analyze and interpret analytical data.  Develop structure/property/performance relationships.


• Present study results to internal and external audiences


• Manage multiple projects, estimate timelines and resources, and coordinate efforts to meet timeline.


• Work closely with other R&D sites and technical support teams to solve challenging technical problems for customers.


• Maintain lab notebooks and logbooks in accordance with company guidelines.


• Comply with company procedural guidelines, laboratory procedures, and safety programs.

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

• PhD in a relevant area of Chemistry is a requirement


• Extensive hands-on operational skills of GC/LC-MS


• Strong competency in mass spectrometry data interpretation and structure elucidation


• Experience with various chromatographic techniques (GC, LC, SEC)


• Independent decision maker


• A record of successful technical achievement


• Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment


• Ability to travel within United States and overseas as needed for product support


• Must be authorized to work in the United State

The following skill sets are preferred:

• Experience with Agilent MassHunter and OpenLab software


• Experience with Waters Empower software


• Experience with LIMS


• Polymer chemistry and characterization


• Carbohydrate chemistry and characterization
