Refinery Lab Technician at Big West Oil, LLC in North Salt Lake, Utah

Job Description:

Looking for a refinery lab technician to join our team. General responsibilities include quality control on incoming and outgoing refinery products. Our lab technicians perform all test procedures on products in the refinery. Testing is conducted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The work schedule is 12 hour shifts while rotating 4 on 4 off (days/nights).

Duties:  Performs various test procedures on products in the refinery. Provides relief for lab personnel on vacation, in training or on sick leave. Assists lab personnel with daily duties as needed. Must be able to work nights and holidays as needed.

Physical Demands: Requires standing and walking throughout most of the day.  Must be able to enter and work in plant environment, routinely carry 10-20 lbs and periodically lift 30-40 lbs. Walking on uneven terrain may be required during normal work duties.

Qualifications: 

• Two years chemistry coursework at university level or a Chemical technician certificate from an accredited school.


• Commensurate experience in a petroleum industry related lab may be accepted in lieu of the above academic requirements. 


• Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.


• Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively.


• Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages and to apply concepts such as basic algebra and geometry.
