Reports to the Patient Access Manager, (MHSB). Supervises and coordinates the daily work flow in the Admitting Department to ensure accurate and efficient admitting process. Motivates and requests suggestions from staff to meet the standards of service and improve department function. Schedules department staff ensuring equitable work and staff distribution and adjusts staffing to meet volume.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
The level of knowledge, skills and abilities listed below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma (or equivalent). A minimum of three years of previous Access Services experience preferred or comparable experience in a similar field, is required. Additional college-level courses in the medical practices area and Certified Healthcare Access Association (CHAA) certification are desired. Prior experience in a leadership role is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology, private insurance coverage and managed care.
Requires complete understanding of time of service collections. Specifically, must understand why it is necessary; also must be able to effectively communicate this to MHSB's patient community as necessary.
Requires proficient keyboarding skills (a minimum of 40 wpm) and the ability to accurately input information. Also requires proficiency in basic computer skills (i.e., data entry, word processing and spreadsheets) and the ability to use multiple databases - - such as Pathways Healthcare Scheduling (PHS) and McKesson Compliance Advisor (MCA).
Requires a complete understanding of the STAR financial system, Horizon Passport MPI (master patient index) system, MCA, Relay Health eligibility, Real Time Eligibility (RTE), Image Link Engine (ILE) (scanning) and STAR Web.
Requires basic office/clerical skills and the ability to use designated reference materials and basic office equipment (i.e., printer, fax machine, calculator, etc.).
Demonstrates the interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients from various backgrounds in a professional, enthusiastic, courteous, friendly, caring and sincere manner. Also demonstrates the ability to maintain effective working relationships and to maintain one's composure in stressful situations.
Demonstrates the communication skills (both verbal and written) needed to communicate in a clear and effective manner (for example, when conducting patient interviews, answering patients' questions and communicating with other departments and physician offices). Good listening skills are also required. A sensitivity to individuals who do not speak English as their first language is expected.
Requires analytical and organization skills necessary to gather information, prepare reports, follow schedules and meet deadlines.
Requires a thorough knowledge of MHSB's financial policies and private insurance coverage (and managed care). Requires thorough knowledge of Indiana and Michigan Medicaid, Crippled children's programs, county programs, Medicare, COBRA and Commercial Insurance.
Working Conditions
Works in a clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated office with no apparent direct exposure to physical hazards.
