Summary:
Directs and guides the activities of manufacturing operations. Responsible for managing the manufacturing operations and inventory management activities necessary to ensure appropriate inventory levels of finished goods, intermediate product, work-in-process, and raw materials. Additional core responsibility is leading the development and implementation of optimized manufacturing operations processes as required. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Functional Description: Management

Directs the development and implementation of activities in production area(s) to meet production goals, quality, and cost objectives. Prioritizes production schedules based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and materials supply. Plans and administers procedures and budgets. Makes budgetary recommendations and at higher levels, controls capital expenditures and direct/indirect labor. Develops schedules and manpower requirements for assigned areas. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Works on complex problems in which analysis or situations or date requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.

  • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • Ensures budgets, schedules, and performance requirements are met.

  • Erroneous decisions will result in critical delays in schedules and/or unit operations and may jeopardize overall business activities.


  • Responsible for ensuring that department is committed to and conforms to the company quality system procedures as documented.

  • Plan and direct all aspects of manufacturing operations activities within an organization.

  • Sets goals, establishes priorities, manages resources, develops concept and approaches, reviews projects progress and results, and makes management decisions.

  • Supervises subordinate personnel including: hiring, determining workload and delegating assignments, training, monitoring and evaluating performance, coaching, initiating corrective or disciplinary actions, and establishing and sustaining long-term human resources and skill requirements for the engineering or operations teams.


  • Develops a strong relationship and shared vision with business leaders establishing a common vision, to create and deliver competitive strength to the organization; specific focus in leveraging strength and teamwork across the division engineering and operations organizations.

  • Increases the overall productivity of operations as evidenced by lower cost, higher quality solutions provided on time.

  • Establishes overall direction while creating and implementing a vision for continual improvement of operations at a detail level as well as higher organizational level; work with others to establish methodologies to resolve process issues.

  • Drives new thoughts in approach, process and methodology while respecting the work and processes of the past.

  • Manages all aspects of manufacturing operations cycle within operational budgets and functional goals of the facility.

  • Provides people leadership focused upon personal and collective accountability while fostering an environment that enhances personal growth and career development through mentoring and training; performance management, and challenging the organization to strive for higher performance levels.

  • Builds a reputation for the manufacturing operations organization of high integrity, competitive leadership, and sustained performance by delivering quality product on a timely basis.

  • Ensures all manufacturing operations projects, initiatives, and processes conform to all applicable requirements and specifications imposed by the company, the customer and/or the industry.

  • Develops clear and effective performance metrics for the manufacturing operations organization as a whole, as well as individuals, measuring the effectiveness; uses metric trends and data to drive the business and decisions therein.

  • Acts as a key member of the senior management team, fosters a proactive approach, and recommends and implements solutions to company issues to drive performance enabling the company to meet and exceed its short-term and long-term objectives.

  • Manages manufacturing operations issues by acting as the primary liaison with other members of management, engineering, manufacturing, clinical and regulatory, quality assurance, quality control, and marketing.


  • Directly responsible for implementation and maintenance of manufacturing operations department procedures. Reports on the performance of manufacturing operations. Plans and maintains departmental budget for the effective operation of the department.

  • This position assumes and performs other duties as required.

Experience and Education Requirements:


  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree with 17+ years of industry experience.

  • 13+ years of years of successful leadership experience in relevant industry.
