Job Description:

Connecting and Protecting People, Microwave Products Group (MPG) is a leading global provider of mission-critical engineered electronic components and subsystems comprised of four business units in five manufacturing locations.  Our brand names are recognized globally including:  BSC Filters, York, UK; Dow-Key Microwave, Ventura, CA; K&L Microwave, Salisbury, Maryland and Dominican Republic and Pole/Zero, West Chester, OH.
Our expertise is the design and manufacture of communications-based specialty products – engineered components and subsystems – for demanding military, space, commercial aerospace/industrial, and telecom infrastructure applications where function and reliability are crucial.

POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Vice President of Product Development and Sales, you will lead teams of product development and marketing leaders that create and execute innovative go-to-market strategies to drive the commercial success of MPG’s component businesses. This position has full P&L responsibility for RF/MW component products (filters and switches) and must work closely with the VP of Operations to meet key objectives.  Those objectives include technical innovation, marketing analysis and digital marketing enhancements as well as product portfolio expansion.  The primary applications for these RF and microwave components are in the defense, automated test, aerospace and space markets. This person will lead a multi-site team which operates from Dow-Key Microwave Ventura, California; Pole/Zero Corporation Cincinnati, Ohio; and K&L Microwave Salisbury, Maryland leveraging these brands to accomplish future growth.  The candidate will report directly to the President of MPG.

 


  • Develops strategic short and long-range plans to cover product needs, financial performance and growth

  • Manages performance measures (KPI's) and provides regular progress via monthly business reviews and reports

  • Regularly evaluates pricing and competitive analysis by product category, customer channel, and market then recommends strategies to improve market position

  • Ensures marketing plan execution for all products from digital campaigns to shows

  • Develop and maintain a yearly strategic plan to advance technology as well as revenue and earnings growth

  • Drives top-line growth even through challenging market conditions

  • Maximize profitability by implementing programs that meet cost targets of products in manufacturing (both producibility and lead-time)

  • Remain up-to-date with market conditions, changes in products, changes in price levels, terms, customer deposits, acquisition regulations, and intellectual property approach

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance a close working relationship between the company and our customer, particularly key development staff of customer as well as government RF/MW technologists

  • Continuously improve product development processes to maximize investment in leading technology development

  • Responsible for marketing campaigns and sales pipeline to ensure bookings goals are achieved

  • In depth knowledge of targeted programs with the potential to drive business growth

  • Review and negotiate key contracts, including any multi-year procurements, long-term agreements or blanket purchase orders with customers

  • Ensure that product development delivery commitments are met with efficiency and cost control, even in a volatile requirements environment

  • Review S&OP regularly to ensure forecasted information is accurate and up-to-date

  • Work with technical and sales leaders to drive strategic and technological investments

  • Work closely with VP of Operations to ensure any product issues are investigated for root cause and appropriate changes are made to base products and product development processes

  • Work with customer management personnel for the timely resolution and disposition of all product problems

  • Follow and ensure that all company policies and procedures are met

  • Establish and maintain employee morale at a high level

  • Overall responsibility for the training, growth, motivation and success of the staff. Including, interviewing, hiring, driving objectives throughout the organization, creating a culture of respect between all employees, responding to employee feedback, addressing systemic complaints

  • Review the performance of department to determine merit pay raises and bonus levels

 

QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY:


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific discipline plus 12 years of experience

  • Minimum of six years of experience in DoD markets with P&L responsibilities   

  • Most recent P&L responsibility must be >$25M

  • Demonstrated business growth in a technology driven organization

  • MBA is desired

  • (Preferred) Technical foundation in RFMW component (preferably filters and switches), with deep understanding of risk, trade-offs, as well as current and emerging technology

  • Experience selling commercial items to government programs

  • Strong staff retention and team building track record

  • Ability to effectively communicate regarding RF/MW technology and requirements

  • Significant experience establishing relationships with potential Defense and Space customers, partners and academic/research contacts

  • Strong understanding of sales channels for RFMW components

  • Possesses an advanced level of computer skills

  • Possesses an advanced level of Microsoft Office skills


  • Communication Skills:  Has a proven track record of successfully interfacing on a regular basis with customers as well as managing a remote workforce


  • Team Work Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead team activities in such a manner as to achieve common goals, objectives and group commitments


  • Decision Making and Problem Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to take action in solving strategic business problems in-line with the overall company goals and objectives.

This position requires travel to MPG, customer, trade show, and Dover locations (roughly 10%-15%)
