Operations Engineering Manager at PPG Industries in BARBERTON, Ohio

Job Description:

The Operations Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing the Technical Department responsible for operational improvements in the Silica and Teslin® departments! This individual will assign resources to manage improvement projects, and employ sigma logic and lean techniques such as process and data analysis, through pareto charts, control charts, design of experiment studies, and QAT leadership to improve safety, quality, and cost. These efforts are geared towards increasing production rates, increasing first run capability, reducing downtime, and decreasing customer complaints.

Key Responsibilities :

• Resolve repeat problems, drive change, utilize new techniques and designs, maintain initiatives, improve procedures, and train operational associates in an overall effort to improve the equipment performance.
• Provide equipment-troubleshooting assistance on the lines to solve daily issues. To facilitate this process the incumbent is expected to use continuous quality improvement tools.
• Assume a support role in the operation of the lines. This includes the resolving operational problems, training, maintaining utilities, coordination of hazardous waste shipments, and supporting maintenance activities.
• Will be the main plant point of contact for research and development personnel working towards new product development and product improvement.
• Utilize the management of change process, develop trial plans, educate operations personnel, analyze follow-up data and issue trial reports for plant trials.
• Ensured that new product transfers are fully integrated into the current product mix meeting customer and plant expectations.
• Provide environmental, health & safety leadership through the managing of operations hazardous waste, trichloroethylene emissions inventory and fugitive emissions reduction, resolving high-risk tasks, and ergonomic improvements.
• Improve the quality through the support of the ISO9000:2001 program, taking the lead role on assigned Quality Action Teams and process improvement projects to eliminate the root causes of product quality defects.
• Support the cost improvement through small projects to improve the overall yield of the process.

Qualifications :

• A minimum of a college Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering degree and five years maintenance or manufacturing experience in an industrial environment.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong customer focus/orientation, decision making, and communication with a wide range of salary and wage associates.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
• Experience with Foxboro and Allen Bradley controls a plus.
• Experience with Sigma Logic skills is required
• Sigma Logic Black Belt is a plus.
• Needs to have a strong personal computer skill level with Windows, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
