Director & Actuary - ALM

As a Director & Actuary, you'll play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by managing and monitoring financial risks within the division. Two broad key functions of the group include managing financial risk and monitoring and communicating financial risk. The team is responsible for overseeing cap and credit rate management, hedging, asset/liability portfolio management and reporting.

How You'll Contribute

  • Fostering strong relationships with colleagues in Finance, Product Design, Risk Management, Investment Management, and Treasury; and serving as a liaison between these areas to facilitate understanding across different functions


  • Overseeing the design and development of Portfolio Management and Reporting. This includes:

  • Managing and monitoring divisional market risk exposure and leading communication with risk management committees, working groups and senior management

  • Lead the design and scoping of ALM tools, dashboards, and reports to help calculate, analyze, and communicate risk and financial metrics for both assets and liabilities


  • Providing investment analysis support during Financial Reporting

  • Lead divisional representative for enterprise cash management through forecasts and monitoring

  • Provide ALM expertise to Valuation, Plan, and Spread Management by providing projected views of portfolio yields

  • Working closely with Product Design and ERM teams to establish risk management techniques and monitoring so we can appropriate price and manage the product

  • Performing capital markets and actuarial research and studies to investigate underlying risk drivers of the products and asset portfolios; Developing risk mitigation solutions to address these risk drivers

Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, MG-ALFA, Prophet, PolySystems, Alteryx


Factors for Success


  • FSA/ASA or CFA designation in the Society of Actuaries

  • 7+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance industry, life products preferred

  • Strong understanding of financial concepts, statutory, GAAP, and/or economic capital framework

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues to non-technical audience

  • Collaborates effectively with colleagues on cross-functional projects and initiatives

  • Demonstrated knowledge of software such as MG-ALFA or other modeling software is preferred

  • Self-starter with good time-management skills

  • Can effectively lead teams and projects comprised of direct reports or peers

  • Position will be assigned based on adequate qualification of candidate
