Reporting into the Sr. Director of Health Policy & Government Affairs, the Manager, Government Affairs will create and enhance relationships with Members of Congress and staff. This person will be responsible for assisting with the development of federal government relations and political strategy. In this role, you would be responsible for communicating with contract lobbyists, associations of which Abiomed is a member, elected officials and their staff members, stakeholder groups and agencies to convey the company positions on issues.



Job Responsibilities:

• Protects and advocates for the company interests with regard to current or proposed federal regulatory, or legislative issues that may impact the organization, its customers, and other stakeholders.


• Work with the Health Policy, Reimbursement & Government Affairs team to execute our U.S. Medicare and public policy strategies


• Work across a matrix with colleagues in commercial, medical affairs, market access, communications, patient advocacy, and other parts of Corporate Affairs to achieve business goals


• Identifies, tracks, monitors and acts on pending and enacted legislation and governmental activities based on input from appropriate internal departments, business units, lobbyists and associations.


• Identifies and communicates legislative issues to external parties similarly situated in order to build relationships and alliances.


• Fosters relationships with Members of Congress, the Administration, and the implementation of policies that could influence the growth and competitiveness of Abiomed.


• Writes memos and prepares briefing materials


• Engages in political activity representing Abiomed as approved by the Sr. Director of Government Affairs & Health Policy

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years experience in governmenet affairs.


• Knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory processes


• Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates


• Ability to manage numerous competing priorities under pressure while effectively collaborating with internal partners


• Understanding of political dynamics and their impact on policy


• Strong oral and written communication skills to influence and effectively lead internal and external audiences to desired outcomes.


• Knowledge of medical device issues a plus
