The expected duration of the orientation session is 1 to 2 hours, with the possibility ofmultiple sessions being scheduled based on the number of qualified applicants.

Examination Components:Qualified applicants must participate in all parts of the examination to receive a final score on the examination.
Assessment Center Exercise(s) 100%
Assessment Center:This is a standardized tool for evaluating behavior through a series of exercises that simulate real-life job tasks or situations. Candidate's responses to the exercises are evaluated by trained assessors who observe, record, classify and score the candidates observable behaviors against valid and objective scoring criteria. An example of an exercise candidates may partake in is:
Critical Incident- this type of exercise is designed to assess one's ability and readiness to take command of and run an emergency scene or tactical situation. Candidates are given scenarios/problems to which they must respond.
The Assessment Center is anticipated to be held in April 2021. Additionalinformation regarding the assessment center and its schedulewill be provided via email and at the candidate orientationsession.Please continue to monitor your email including your spam/junk folder and personal status board in JobAps for further communication regarding the scheduling of the assessment center.
There will be no make-up assessment center except in very rare situations, where an applicant has a legitimate reason for not attending the regularly scheduled assessment center such as active military duty, serious illness or injury, death in the immediate family, or an accident the day of the assessment center. Documentation will be required (e.g., military orders, medical certification, police report, etc.) prior to the date of the assessment center, except in critical situations occurring the day of the assessment center. For those critical situations occurring the day of the assessment center, documentation will be required by close of business the first business day following the assessment center. DAS has final authority to approve or deny all make-up requests.
Certified List:Upon conclusion of the assessment center, the Department of Administrative Services will certify an eligible list in order of ranked score.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of State Police, this class is accountable for serving as Commander of a State Police Troop, overseeing activities of a specialized section of a major division or serving as Commander of a district within the Statewide Narcotics Task Force Section.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Supervises the overall activities of a troop, specialized section or district within the Statewide Narcotics Task Force Section with responsibility for effective implementation of all operations; conducts continuous appraisal of operations and recommends or institutes corrective action as warranted; schedules and oversees effective assignment and utilization of personnel, equipment or facilities; assumes command of crime or major accident scenes or incidents involving police personnel, oversees investigation activities as required; oversees continuing inservice training and development of personnel; promotes and maintains effective public relations with news media, public officials and the general public; oversees and supervises recordkeeping and administrative management activities of command; performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures; considerable knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws, statutes, regulations and court decisions; considerable knowledge of principles of modern police administration; considerable ability to accurately evaluate situations and make effective administrative and supervisory decisions; knowledge of modern police investigative techniques, procedures and aids; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills; leadership and supervisory ability.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Two (2) years of experience as a State Police Sergeant.
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
Incumbents in this class must possess sufficient strength, stamina, agility and endurance to perform all the duties of the class.
