MORE ABOUT THIS JOB

MERCHANT BANKING

We invest in corporate equity and debt, real estate equity and debt, and infrastructure-related assets and companies. Merchant Banking operates on a global platform and our team works in a fast-paced, exciting environment. We look for individuals with versatile skills and a passion for investing.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

AMD Private Credit is one of the world's largest alternative credit investing platforms with approximately $75bn of AUM and investment professionals based in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia. The business encompasses both private side investing across performing and opportunistic credit.

AMD Private Credit is a dynamic platform with significant cross-pollination across strategies - direct lending (middle market and large cap performing credit), opportunistic and structured credit. Associates work as part of small deal teams responsible for identifying, diligencing, structuring, executing and monitoring investments, and are involved in a wide variety of high profile transactions across the capital structure in a variety of industries.

Importantly, many of the current AMD Private Credit investment professionals entered the group through the associate program. As such, the Credit associate role is viewed not as a traditional buy-side "two-years-and-out" associate program, but rather as the primary entry point for an upward trajectory career path within AMD.

The Opportunistic Investing platform is focused on directly originated, structurally protected investments for companies facing idiosyncratic complexities that challenge traditional financing sources, including stress/distress or other unique circumstances and companies seeking alternatives to private equity, cost of capital optimization or more flexibility than traditional debt. An "all seasons" strategy focused on investing in all market conditions and has ability to invest across the capital structure (including both debt and equity). The Opportunistic platform invests primarily third party capital through flagship fund West Street Strategic Solutions I, which is a $14bn vehicle, and the GS balance sheet.

Associate Responsibilities

Originating investment ideas across the product suite of Credit via early engagement with relevant parties (e.g., financial sponsors / company management teams for the private-side investing platforms)
  • Engaging in all aspects of due diligence and business analysis to develop and refine investment theses (with a focus on financial modeling)

  • Participating in structuring, negotiating and documenting investments

  • Communicating and defending investment theses to internal stakeholders and committees, including relevant AMD and firmwide Investment Committees

  • Actively monitoring existing investments in the portfolio

  • Building relationships with sponsors, management teams and internal GS stakeholders

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of investment banking or investing experience

  • Strong quantitative, financial modeling, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Passion for investing with specific interest in credit / other structured products

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Flexible and creative mindset; ability to analyze a variety of industries and businesses

  • Ability to self-direct, analyze and evaluate and form independent judgments

  • Ability to interact and build relationships with a wide variety of people
