DESCRIPTION

Under direct supervision, the Fire Protection Intern will assist the senior fire protection personnel with the planning, design, and analysis of fire protection systems and perform life safety analysis for new and existing buildings. Types of systems include: fire sprinklers, fire pumps, high expansion foam, fire alarm and mass notification systems. Typical buildings and facilities include: office buildings, storage and warehouses, aircraft hangars, and maintenance facilities.

• Use computer assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering tasks


• Complete system design, including piping, valves, and device layout of sprinkler and fire/alarm notification systems


• Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler and fire pump design


• Analyze life safety requirements for buildings, including building code compliance, occupant load calculations, and egress analysis


• Summarize submittals and contractor Requests For Information review


• Coordinate designs with other engineering disciplines
  
  

• Enrolled as a part-time or full-time student in good academic standing at an accredited University, College, or Technical School in pursuit of a BS in Fire Protection Engineering


• Minimum 2.5 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale


• Have an understanding of fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, and life safety analysis


• AutoCAD and/or Revit experience is a plus


• HRS HASS calculation experience is a plus
