Summary of the Group
The Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering (ADPE) department at AstraZeneca is constantly pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, with a passion for discovery and a pipeline to show for it. We're utilizing our expertise in protein and antibody engineering to enable novel therapeutic approaches to Oncology, Respiratory, Inflammatory, Cardiovascular and Infectious disease. We offer a unique and strong collaborative network as part of the AstraZeneca family, as together we explore new and exciting technologies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
As a member of the Antibody Discovery and Protein Engineering group your main responsibilities will include planning and executing experiments related to lead discovery, antibody characterization and developing protein engineering platforms for therapeutic antibody generation and optimization. She/he will work with scientists to create research plans, execute experiments, analyze and interpret data and present results to the group and the department. She/he is expected to have a strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills and keep good records. Strong team-based communication and presentation skills will be required.
Design and execute antibody discovery campaigns using phage display and B-cell isolation technologies
Evaluate novel protein therapeutics, including binding affinity, therapeutic efficacy, and mechanism of action studies
Contribute to the design and engineering of technology platform builds such as immune engager novel modalities, ADCs, Fc domains and protein mimetics.
Interpret data in the context of multidisciplinary project teams
A degree in the life sciences (ideally in the areas of cell biology, molecular biology, protein engineering or similar) with applicable experience, as follows:
PhD with 0-2 years of experience
MS with 4+ years of experience
BS with 8+ years of experience
Experience with antibody selection techniques using phage display; Familiarity with antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs)
Strong background in modern molecular biology techniques with experience in cloning, PCR and sequencing
Experience with antibody characterization techniques including SDS-PAGE, SPR and SEC; Experience with mode of action, PK assay development and antibody internalization
Experience with cytotoxicity assays, cellular screening, affinity assessments and flow cytometry
Experience with cell culture, recombinant protein production and purification.
Ability to conceive of and design experiments, develop assays, optimize protocols, and interpret experimental results, as well as to learn and embrace new technologies quickly, work independently and communicate well with the team
Experience with yeast display and B-cell discovery platforms
Experience with ybridoma/B-cell technologies
Skilled in V-gene recovery from mammalian cells.
Experience with automation platforms
