Job Description Summary:

Being an intern at CFA Institute means contributing to our mission of advancing ethics, market integrity, and professional standards of practice in the investment management industry. You'll have the chance to put academic principles learned in the classroom into practice in a real-world environment through hands-on project work and professional development opportunities. The Intern will actively support programs and projects within the CTO Unit and under close mentorship, undertake a range of ongoing activities of varying levels and professional complexity. Ultimately, the Intern will serve as a member of a professional team, interacting with colleagues, peers, and other stakeholders in the planning and implementation of projects and the execution CFA Institute's mission and values.

This specific internship will provide an opportunity to deliver one or more technology solutions within the CFA Institute ecosystem for the benefit of our stakeholders. This position will be involved in envisioning the need of and designing the solution from a customer first perspective. This position will be responsible for designing and planning for the technology involved, coding and configuring systems to build out a solution, testing the solution and delivering it to constituents. Each step along our Software Development Lifecycle will be directly supported by staff professionals.

Job Description:

The Software Development Intern will have the opportunity to:

• Partner with one or more product professionals and customer experience experts in the exploratory and envisioning phase of solving business critical problems.


• Work directly with architects, software engineers, quality assurance engineers, DevOps architects and change delivery managers to deliver value adding solutions to our technology portfolio.


• Learn about technology platforms and enterprise design.


• Design and write code and/or configure systems to deliver valuable change.


• Test code and test solutions to ensure business needs are met.


• See your efforts make a difference to CFA Institute by delivring solutions that are used.

All CFA Institute Interns will have the opportunity to:

• Participate in Professional Development sessions aimed at equipping the intern with the skills, capabilities, and knowledge to be a value-added employee.


• Contribute to group project work with other interns to hone collaboration and teamwork skills.


• Create content and tell their internship story in support of CFA Institute's Internship Program outreach and marketing efforts.

The experience required for this role are:

• Three years of relevant college/university coursework


• Experienced with Object Oriented Programming languages (Java, C#, C++, etc.)


• Scripting experience (Python, Javascript, etc.)


• Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle and associated project/planning methodologies (ex. Agile) a plus


• Familiarity with Web Content Management Systems a plus


• Knowledge of Salesforce or other CRM tools a plus


• Knowledge/familiarity with CI/CD, testing, requirements gathering, user story development, and wireframing tools a plus


• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing


• Comfortable learning and adopting new technology and tools


• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
