Spec Engineering is seeking an impact player and difference maker to lead our Finance department who is focused on job costing, profitability, and owning the continued development of the finance department. Spec Engineering is a privately held, fast growing, and stable full-service process engineering firm with our main office located in Plainfield Il, and a second location in Chicago. We provide the latest in technology to manufacturers in the food, beverage, and specialty chemical industries. Compensation range (based on experience): $85,000-$105,000


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Directing the department and managing the general accounting functions.

  • Experience and ability to track project profitability through job costing.

  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice. Work closely with the accounting team to monitor and review accounting-related reports for accuracy and completeness.

  • Develop and monitor the company budget.

  • Partner with the Human Resources team on administration of employee benefits.

  • Oversees the completion of ledger accounts and financial statements.

  • Works with corporate accounting to present month-end, close-out reports.

  • Evaluates and makes appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes ensuring that practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization.

  • Coordinates preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting.

  • Reviews financial statements with management personnel.

  • Prepares month and year end closings and applicable reporting.

  • Resolves accounting discrepancies.

  • Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting system.

Required Education/Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in finance or equivalent

  • 7-12 years of experience with accounting in the engineering, construction, or related fields.
