Quality Assurance/Infection Preventionist

The primary purpose of the Quality Assurance/Infection Preventionist is to evaluate the quality of patient care and patient outcomes as they relate to health care associated (HAI) infections; facilitates the implementation and maintenance of the QAA/QAPI process and provides on-going performance improvement and improved outcomes. collects prepares and analyzes HAI infection and surveillances data; presents infection data and makes recommendations for actions. The Quality Assurance/Infection Preventionist also monitors employee compliance in use of PPE and use of transmission precautions barriers and infection prevention measures; prepares and presents educational offerings for the staff and serves as a resource to all departments and personnel.

Pay:$85,000-$90,200 annually depending upon experience

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assesses quality insurance/infection prevention and control problems and makes recommendations for corrective action.
  • Prepares agenda for the Infection prevention/control and QAA/QAPI Assists committee in defining a desired future (vision).
  • Executes 50% job functions of Quality Assurance and 50% Infection Prevention.
  • Serves as a resource for all departments and personnel in supporting staff through the stress of organizational transition and assists in with change management.
  • Assists managers and staff to identify root causes of problems, develop and implement action plans that will enhance program/departmental effectiveness. Utilizes the IHI model for improvement for making change.
  • Attends to both the technical issues and human interactions involved in the problem-solving process by promoting innovation, education and continuous improvement throughout the program.
  • Initiates and revises infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
  • Conducts outbreak investigation and initiates control measures.
  • Analyzes health care associated infection prevention and control data to establish trends.
  • Reports communicable disease to the state as required by law.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and attends quality assurance meetings per facility protocol.
  • Participates in short and long range planning for the infection prevention and control department.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
  • Maintains ongoing education to meet the requirements of this position.
  • Maintain the Antibiotic Stewardship Program and track Duration of Treatment along with standard metrics for Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Must be a member of and attend the QAPI meeting.

Job Requirements
  • Education: Current licensure in the state of employment as a RN and current licensure.
  • Experience: Previous long-term care experience or infection prevention and control background.
  • Good problem solver with abilities to make independent judgments utilizing initiative, discretion and the nursing process as needed with the ability to prioritize duties.
  • Effective communicator with staff, families and outside agencies. Must function as a team player.
  • Possess a knowledge base of blood borne pathogens and infection prevention and control standards.
  • Proficient in use and obtaining anti-biograms from local lab/health systems annually. Utilize QAA/QAPI process when indicated.
