The Biomechanical Engineer II provides engineering and product development expertise in areas of kinematics, human factors and interface, and exercise physiology that enabled Life Fitness to continue delivering best-in-class and innovative fitness solutions that improve overall exerciser experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluate and improve kinematics of human motion
Quantify muscle usage and desired kinematics to utilize targeted muscles
Specify human interface parameters such as touch points, viewability, ingress and egress
Improve comfort and functionality of interface points like seats, pedals, grips
Develop algorithms for metabolic and performance parameters such as Calories, VO2 max, distance, and speed
Translate biomechanics benefits into customer explanations
Conduct customer tour presentations
Assist in developing marketing literature claims
Apply expertise in responding and guiding customer
Advance analysis capabilities through new technologies, industry partnerships and collaborations, literature reviews, and internal evolution Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles in assignments
REQUIRED SKILLS:
3+ years experience in related field
Must be proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint)
Must have experience in preparing test plans, test descriptions, test metrics, and test reports
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must have proficient presentation skills
Familiarity with the analysis systems below (full proficiency a plus):
SolidWorks / BodyWorks Anthropometric databases
Model 2D Vicon Motus (or similar camera-based kinematic motion-capture analysis system)
Jaeger Oxycon (or similar metabolic analysis system)
Tekscan F-Scan & ClinSeat (or similar force/pressure analysis system)
Experience in product development (specifications, prototype validation, etc.)
Experience in statistical analysis and regression techniques
Self-starter, quick-learner and capable of representing the functional group on a team; may be required to train other staff in analysis techniques
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
DESIRED SKILLS:
Experience with LifeMOD, Open Sim, or similar human kinetic simulation system
Experience with LabView or similar data acquisition system
Experience in the fitness industry
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering field with coursework in Human Factors and Biomechanics required
Master's degree in Biomechanical/Mechanical Engineering or Exercise Physiology preferred
