The Thales IFE Services Engineering Manager (SvEM) in Irvine California, shall be responsible for identifying, and defining the necessary Global Service Deliverables of multiple, HOV (Head Of Version) Solutions, ensuring Service and Support Requirements are delivered prior to a new solution’s EIS (Entry Into Service). 

The Thales IFE SvEM shall represent the entire GCSS (Global Customer Support and Services) Organization during all new HOV Solution Development Activities including representing this organization during their individual Phase Reviews from Concept to KOM\KOR (Kick-Off Meeting\Review), up to PRR (Production Readiness Review)\FQR (Final Qualification Review), until new HOV Developments are transferred to identified Sustaining Groups. 

The Thales IFE SvEM shall collaborate with other Thales IFE Organizations ensuring the required levels of Reliability, Maintainability, Availability and Testability (RAMT) are reached according to customer/market requirements, and Thales needs for all new HOV IFE Solutions.

The Thales SvEM shall also support System-Level Software updates of new Features\Functions and\or in-service resolutions maintaining a Thales IFE Solution’s in-service reliability\performance.  

Key Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for representing the Thales IFE GCSS Organization for all new CS and CIS HOV Solutions, and System-Level Software Developments, defining their in-service strategies to deliver world class levels of Services and Support meeting\exceeding Thales IFE and customer expectations.


  • Responsible for the definition and design of New HOV Solutions ensuring their operational and performance Service Requirements are continually met.


  • Leads bi-costal teams in analyzing problems, making recommendations, defining priorities and implementing solutions to ensure Service Requirements are delivered.


  • Promotes a New HOV Solution Development’s Return on Investment (ROI) based on its life-cycle costs, and makes the necessary adjustments required to ensure financial impact services requirements are delivered.


  • Has the authorization and authority of the GCSS Organization to make the ‘final decision’ and\or ‘ability to stop’ when any New HOV Development Solution in-progress, following the Chorus 6.1. (Design, Develop and Qualify the Solution) Procedures, is not meeting the expected GCSS agreed upon requirements to deliver.


  • With the GCSS Engineering PMO, defines the budget prior to a new HOV Development start for the GCSS Organization, and continually monitors ensuring allocated resources, labor hours, tooling, etc. are available throughout a new HOV Solution’s development till Entry Into Service is achieved.


  • Responsible for the development, maintaining and release a New HOV Development Solution’s Service File (contains the Service Management Plan (SMP), and the Service Definition Document (SDD)) for New Developments, when required.


  • Responsible for coordinating with other Solution’s Team Members and\or the individual GCSS Groups, ensuring the agreed upon Service Readiness requirements and deliverables are available when planned.        


  • Responsible for creating\maintaining a GCSS New HOV Development Solution Checklist specific to the GCSS Organization’s needs, providing ‘real-time’ traceability and status of requirements and deliverables are continually monitored till Entry Into Service delivered.


  • Shall collaborate with other Thales IFE Organizations in the development\deployment of RAMT Analyses of a new HOV Solution Development ensuring delivered solution meets\exceeds the RAMT Prerequisites stated in that new HOV Solution’s Requirement Documentation.


  • Responsible for providing periodic status of all solutions managed, along with highlighting critical requirements and deliverables that are late and/or de-scoped, with assessments of their impacts for GCSS.


  • Responsible for escalating immediately, any critical matter requiring their management’s involvement that have an unrecoverable impact to GCSS and its organizations.


  • Responsible for ensuring a seamless transfer of newly released HOV Development Solutions to the appropriate GCSS Sustaining Groups (Sustaining Engineering, Product Support Engineering, etc.) to carrying on continuous improvements’ activities.


Required Skills and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline or related field with minimum 8-12+ years of work experience or Master’s degree in engineering discipline or related field with 6+ years of work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


  • 8+ years of experience in a New Product\Program Development position, solely responsible for a specific organization\program driving requirements thru development, to validation, to production release. 


  • 2 Years’ experience within a Quality Control\Assurance Role analyzing Trends, determining Root Causes and implementation of Corrective/Preventive Actions is a plus.


  • Have understanding on Python, Perl, XML, Android, Connectivity-Protocols, Cable-TV/Set-TopBox


  • Have working knowledge of Interfacing & Networking: Serial, Ethernet, IP/MAC addressing, VLANs, broadcast & multicast.


  • Have knowledge of Linux, Shell scripting, MySQL, PHP, C, C++


  • May need to travel on an on needed basis, maybe every 6-months, no longer than five business days at a time.

Preferred Skills and Experience:


  • Knowledge and Hands-on experience with networking type equipment is a plus


  • Knowledge and Hands-on experience with Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, Android) is a plus


  • Experience and\or Knowledge of FAA, EASA, ARINC Regulations and Rules is a plus


  • Experience and\or Knowledge of MSG-3 (Maintenance Steering Group), and EASA Part M is a plus
