About this role…

As a Proposal Writer for NWEA, you will forward our mission by ensuring that the organization responds to solicitations (Requests for Proposals (RFP), Request for Information (RFI), etc.) with high quality, customer focused proposals. You will interact with multiple teams within the organization to assist in the preparation of proposals for state, district, corporate, and federal contracts, and grants. In the Proposal Writer role, you will create cohesive and coherent narratives through the assimilation of information provided in various formats (pre-written, verbal, graphic) while adhering to the proposal development schedule. This includes developing compelling, customer-focused copy that clearly communicates the value of our existing services and products and editing and updating pre-existing boilerplate content. In addition, you will provide editorial and proofreading support to other members of the Proposal Development team.

Must haves…

  • Demonstrated writing, interviewing, research, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to assimilate information from various sources
  • Ability to analyze requirements and anticipate appropriate responses
  • Ability to write in different styles including business, technical, and marketing and to know which style is appropriate for assignments
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback to other Proposal Writers
  • Ability to assess the effectiveness of processes and procedures and recommend improvements
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of individuals including the Proposal Development team, other NWEA teams, NWEA partners, and state/district procurement representatives
  • Ability to see the connections across all components of various systems (e.g., MAP Suite, including user interfaces, data flow, and procedures)
  • Exceptional skills in partnering with clients and internal staff and in developing and maintaining long-term, supportive relationships
  • Ability to sense the importance or impact of issues and situations and take appropriate actions with direction from a Sr. Proposal Writer and/or Proposal Director
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and quality
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products , and knowledgeable about information management system capabilities and interdependencies (SharePoint, OneNote, Salesforce)
  • Ability to organize time effectively, determine priorities, and move work forward
  • Must be able to perform the physical and intellectual requirements of the role, with or without accommodation
Education and experience…
  • Minimum bachelor's degree required preferably in English, Creative Writing, or Journalism; or an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum three years' experience in proposal or professional writing
  • Experience working in education industry preferred
