Forward Intermodal is seeking a capable and career-oriented Operations Manager to help lead our intermodal operation. The ideal candidate will supervise and help coordinate all activities of support personnel. He/she will provide training, performance feed-back, and provide disciplinary recommendations when necessary. This position reports directly to the Terminal Manager.
Core Responsibilities & Duties:
Manage dispatch team daily by providing direction and guidance
Work with the customer service reps on daily availability and communicate any delays, reschedules or other issues
Ensure that equipment is picked up from the rail and returned to the rail in a timely manner, avoiding additional costs to customers or Forward Intermodal
Interview, train, retain and help recruit Owner Operators and Company drivers
Focus on employee development: organic growth through cross-training and reviews
React quickly and accordingly to day-to-day operational challenges
Contact rails, chassis pools, CY's, and other equipment providers to resolve problems
Ensure all emails to dispatch group are responded to in a timely manner and proper action taken
Drive KPI's set forth by Terminal Manager including driver productivity
Oversee safety related items for all drivers such as hours of services, truck inspections, E-logs, etc
Ability to meet with drivers at our Joliet IL facility
Manage truck assignments, rentals, subs, parking, repairs, PM's and all other tractor related duties
Communicate daily expectations to second and third shift dispatchers (24 hour operation)
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Strong team player that thrives in a fast-paced environment
Ability to drive performance of direct reports and lead a team in a lean transportation environment
Understand P&L statements and analyze areas for production improvement.
Must be able to work alternate shift, possibly starting at 10am, occasionally Saturday
Prior Intermodal experience is required
International/Import experience is a plus
Must have three (3) or more years of supervisory experience in a high-volume, fast-paced transportation environment
Must possess demonstrated leadership ability
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of operations
Skills:
Ideal candidate will possess a "can do" attitude with a "will do" work ethic
Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment
General computer skills - Microsoft Office, Outlook, Profit Tools a plus
Excellent communication and problem solving skills
