Sr. Human Resources Manager

The Sr. Human Resources Manager provides leadership in a variety of functions for our Multi-Platform operations such as: implementing HR operational strategies, analyzing business information and leading HR and business project initiatives in partnership with the leadership team, proactively engaging in employee relations issues, managing and partnering in Talent Acquisition, selection and community outreach efforts of the team, employee development activities, managing programs, policies and procedures in support of the company culture. The Sr. Human Resources Manager reports to the Regional HR Manager, and partners with the Sr. Director of Supply Chain, Director of Labor Relations and Legal Counsel. This role is critical in encouraging and facilitating continuous improvement efforts and driving world class results in cost, quality, service, people, and environment.

Employee Relations Responsibilities:


  • Leads all HR Operations in our Multi-Platform dairy manufacturing facility to include the leadership, mentorship, and career development for all HR team members on site.


  • Strong Leadership and knowledge of California Labor Laws including, Wage, Meal & Rest Breaks, Time Keeping Standards, Mandatory Training and provide coaching guidance to Plant Leaders and teams.


  • Excellent understanding of California Leave of absence, Workers' Compensation and related time off practiced.


  • Leads initiatives to foster positive employee relations, an engaged workforce, a positive culture, and effective communication throughout the plant by working collaboratively with leaders and hourly employees.


  • Leads Land O'Lakes Survey Process and ensures robust action plans are created and executed to drive key metrics.


  • Provides guidance on the application and interpretation of policies and practices and ensures compliance with all applicable laws.


  • Leads Performance Management efforts and organizational development efforts for both short and long-term planning.


  • Leads efforts to improve on existing practices and procedures to continue hiring Top Talent for both exempt and non-exempt level positions.


  • Partner with plant leadership to consistently and fairly apply disciplinary actions and improvement plans.


  • Responds to employee complaints by leading investigations, researching issues, managing Connect Call responses, and serves as a contact person with outside agencies.


  • Builds a working partnership with the Centers of Excellence, Director of Employee and Labor Relations and with Corporate Legal Counsel.


Union Employee Relations:


  • Leads and manages internal investigations; resolves disputes and supports the process to respond to EEOC, EDD, Labor Commissioner, and DFEH charges.


  • Interfaces with union officials to ensure contract compliance and represents the company in union hearings and arbitrations.


  • Exceptional understanding of contract and provide preventative training and action plans to proactively promote positive working relations.


Talent Management Responsibilities:


  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and supports recruiting strategies to attract and retain top talent for both salaried and hourly positions.


  • Leads succession management, organizational design, leadership development and resource needs for both exempt and non-exempt roles.


  • Oversees and partners in selection process where needed to include screening, interviewing, assessing candidates, and recommending finalists in leadership functions and critical roles.


  • Ensures recruiting strategies are aligned to achieve site and Dairy Division goals.


  • Leads recruiting onsite to achieve diversity goals and AAP actions.


  • Supports learning and development strategy to include analyzing needs, delivering training, securing corporate training resources, and analyzing results.


  • Ensures compliance related to required training.


Supervisory Skills:


  • Experienced in providing leadership, guidance and development to 3-5 direct reports


  • Thorough understanding of Labor Scheduling.


Experience/Skills Required:


  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field and Ten (10) years' experience (minimum) in Human Resources with concentration in employee/labor relations and manufacturing.


  • This role is required to work from the Manufacturing Site Location


  • Seeking Five (5) plus years of proven leadership, communication skills (in both small and large groups) and ability to influence, lead, and drive change in a complex manufacturing environment.


  • Excellent understanding of HR Metrics


  • Proficient in California Labor Laws and current legislation.


  • Union/Labor Relations experience with a track record of positive working relations


  • Ability to engage with employees of all levels in a manufacturing facility including effectively understanding business process through partnerships and walking facility.


  • Ability to effectively collaborate with local, regional, and corporate HR teams to achieve Plant and Company objectives.


  • Experience coaching all levels of leadership.


  • Ability to travel minimum 10% of the time, some overnight may be required.


Knowledge, Skills and Ability Highly Preferred:


  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Human Resources, Labor Relations, or a related field.


  • Human Resources certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP).


  • Familiarity with ADP/E-Time payroll and Workday (ERP) systems.


  • Project management experience applicable to Human Resources, cross-functional initiatives and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement.


  • Working knowledge of financial statements/principles/concepts.


  • Bold leadership style and intellectually curious personality to build and sustain relationships at all levels in the organization and has audacity and courage to respectfully challenge others to make solid business and people decisions.


  • Strong level of emotional intelligence and self-awareness.


  • Must have experience managing a budget.


  • Strong verbal, written communication, presentation and facilitation skills.


  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.


  • Strong detail orientation and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.


  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule to support a 24/7 manufacturing business.


  • Experience and career history with "Fortune 500" type company.
