The Sales Development Manager (SDM) is a technical and consultative sales role that will develop and execute initiatives to identify and capitalize on market trends and growth opportunities of the USG Structural Panel portfolio in the NE territory of the USA. The SDM will leverage their extensive knowledge of general construction practices to appropriately position the USG Structural Panel portfolio as the basis of design with Architects, structural engineers, general contractors, and other identified target markets. This sales role utilizes both direct sell activities as well as management Independent Sales Representatives (ISRs) within the Northeast territory which includes NY, NJ, PA, CT, MA, etc. The manager is expected to live within their work territory.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Drive USG Structural panel sales in the territory through direct sales and sales through ISR groups.
Calls on project architects, specification managers, structural engineers, building owners, developers, general contractors, building material distributors, and carpenter/framing subcontractors to drive the USG structural panels specification and to promote USG structural panels in projects.
Work with USG product and technical managers, as well as USG Corporate Innovation personnel, to provide market feedback to assist in the product application development.
Drive USG structural panel project specifications to and defend these specifications against competition and alternate structural systems.
Effectively communicate and coordinate with all appropriate USG field sales teams.
Provide sales/marketing leadership in the territory with coordinated HQ marketing & sales plans and programs.
Manage administrative duties, such as operating within budget and power user of Salesforce.com.
Develop relationships with appropriate builders, architects, and structural engineers for target markets.
Position Requirements
Experience and familiarity with wood or steel framed, or concrete structural systems.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. Skilled at independent scheduling of activities and setting of priorities to ensure maximizing of account development for both existing and new accounts.
Initiative and high level of self-motivation. Willingness to travel up to 75% within the NE region.
Ability to absorb, understand and communicate technical subject matter as it would relate to Structural Panel Portfolio and the greater building industry, ideally with all key influencers, including specifiers, contractors, and distribution.
Strong personal persuasion and discussion skills.
Key Qualifications
Education – Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in construction or structural design.
3+ years of sales or verifiable strong selling skills and job tracking experience.
