Job Description:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Designs components or portions of a system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.

  • Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, and cost.

  • Coordinates with other departments affected by design development.

  • Assists engineers in the development of drawings and detailed mechanical or electrical drawings of components and assemblies.

  • Makes layouts of assemblies and detail parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures.

  • Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.

  • Develops bills of material and related information.

  • Often acts as a facilitator and team lead.

  • May check the work of entry-level drafters to ensure accuracy of details, drawings and calculations.

Position Requirements


  • Associates degree in engineering or related technical discipline.

  • 0 - 5 years of detail and design experience using the appropriate 3D CAD modeling software.

  • Develops and reviews designs by extracting and analyzing engineering data.

  • May select and recommends procedures in the design and prepares preliminary design for engineering approval.

  • Applies engineering methods in the research and development of new products.

  • Understands and follows standard work methods and design processes to prepare preliminary designs.

  • Advanced use of elementary algebra and geometry.

  • Possesses strong verbal and written communications skills.
