JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the accounting functions related to various alternative investments, and for preparing/reviewing financial statements, performing technical accounting research, and working with our external auditors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but are not limited to the job specifications contained herein. Additional duties or job functions that can be performed safely may be required as deemed necessary by Harbor Group Management.
Review and/or perform month-end closeout and prepare monthly financial package with supporting schedules for multiple alternative investments
Review and/or prepare and post monthly journal entries to the general ledger
Review and/or prepare monthly bank reconciliations
Assist in the recording of purchases and sales of alternative investments
Review billing statements and invoices
Review and/or prepare GAAP and IFRS financial statements, including drafting of footnotes
Research and address GAAP and IFRS technical accounting issues
Collaborate with departments to identify technical accounting and financial reporting issues and assess related financial reporting implications
Provide guidance/assistance to auditors with financial statement questions and/or issues
Review and/or prepare institutional reports on a quarterly and yearly basis
Review legal documents to determine and track reporting requirements for new entities
Work with external CPA firm to provide information required for audits and other engagements
Respond to various requests from investors and external sponsors
Track securities documents and ensure placement with qualified custodian
Assist in the documentation, updating, and creation of accounting/finance SOPs
Serve as backup for distribution process and other processes as needed
Work on various special projects

BS degree in Accounting or equivalent
CPA required
3-5 years in public accounting, with heavy experience in preparing financial statements and researching technical accounting issues required
Previous experience with Yardi, MRI, or other accounting systems a plus
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook & PowerPoint; very strong Excel skills along with ability to learn new accounting systems
Strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS and ability to research accounting literature including previous experience dealing with technical matters that include complex real estate transactions
Excellent organization skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment
Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively
Excellent interpersonal & communications skills, both verbal and written; ability to communicate with external sponsors and investors
Ability to assimilate and summarize large quantities of data precisely and succinctly
Ability to prioritize, manage time well, meet critical deadlines, and work well under pressure
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity
