Position Summary:

Responsible for the inventory of MRO items within the Plant for the Maintenance Department and other areas as needed.   Maintains stock of needed items through the ordering and inventory processes;   Researches other options, sources materials as needed, assists in ordering, planning, and stocking of the stores area for both Maintenance and Manufacturing.   Works with internal and external customers to ensure the proper supply of MRO items.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for executing the policies and procedures governing the centralized stores, including the receipt, identification, storage and disbursement of maintenance, repair and operating supplies, manufacturing supplies.


  • Inventory MRO items and re-order as needed, including emergency items.


  • Initiate and prepare lists of potential obsolete stock items for review by plant maintenance/engineering. Disburse obsolete items as directed.


  • Requisition, package, and ship items to vendors to be repaired and returned.


  • Work closely with vendors to negotiate pricing, service, quality, and new products. Works closely with engineering, maintenance personnel, production, purchasing, etc., regarding various purchasing matters.


  • Maintains good housekeeping practices.


  • Responsible for executing and administering objectives, policies and procedures in the maintenance department. 


  • Responsible for exploring markets by surveys, analysis and negotiations to improve price, quality, service and/or source of supply.  Reconciles suppliers' invoices against purchase orders and receivers.


  • Responsible for the daily operations of the maintenance storeroom.  Responsible for reporting the consumption of inventory by machine number, department, and account on a monthly basis.


  • Maintains all IATF-16949 documents within the department.


  • Responsible for developing a cost reduction plan covering the items purchased for the storeroom, initiating proper action, working with purchasing.


  • Maintains records of equipment, repair parts, and maintenance performed on equipment.  Maintains complete file of information such as blueprints, manufacturers operating and maintenance procedures.


  • Orders materials for engineering projects, making sure to get best price and delivery and correct accounting codes against those materials.


  • Takes complete inventory of stock room semi-annually.


  • Responsible for ordering items needed for maintaining the equipment and the building.  In emergency situations, responsible for going out after parts if necessary.


  • Prepares lists of items to be added to stores to maintain new equipment brought in.  Attempts to keep items as consolidated as possible concerning brands and sizes, etc., to help reduce quantities on common items.


  • Overviews the ordering and receiving of chemical substances in the following manner:


  • Reviews chemical code listing monthly, deleting obsolete items and/or adding new.


  • Makes sure all incoming chemical substances for maintenance are properly coded and labeled before delivering to stores.


  • Reports any problems to Maintenance Manager or Engineering Manager.


  • The person filling this position will understand quality policies and standards as they apply to this function.


  • May quote additional options for equipment and/or services while maintaining pricing, service, safety, and quality per supplied specifications.

Education and Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma/GED -  Associate Degree in Accounting/Business/Purchasing preferred.


  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in a buyer / purchasing position.


  • Excellent communications skills required to interact with customers, peers, suppliers and support staff.


  • Requires problem-solving and analytical skills to gather and interpret materials data and information.


  • Computer competency required, including spreadsheet, word-processing, and presentation software

  • Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on the manufacturing floor
