Description


The Euclid Chemical Company is searching for an individual with strong attention to detail and analytical skills to join the team as a Cost Accountant.

Basic Function:

Assists the VP Finance & Controller with cost and financial analysis functions and also provides reliable information necessary to control operations for The Euclid Chemical North American Operations.

Main Responsibilities:


  • Assists with inventory, cost of sales and manufacturing budgets for Euclid Chemical North American businesses.

  • Analyzes, reports and forecasts trends on variance activities against plan and prior periods, including using the actual cost tool for trend analysis.

  • Conducts manufacturing variance review on a regular basis.

  • Conducts period-end closing, account reconciliations, statement analysis and reporting; including, but not limited to monthly US Manufacturing Census, quarterly material price test, OSD Reports, inventory reconciliations execution and completion of the material ledger closing.

  • Assists with the annual standard cost update, product cost analysis and service labor rate calculations.

  • Maintains and reviews cycle counting processes for plants.

  • Conducts product costing for new/revised formula codes on an "as needed" basis.

  • Assists in IRR (Internal Rate of Return) calculations for Capital Request for expenditures; understands the impacts of capital expenditures on manufacturing and finance.

  • Reviews financial accounting information on a regular basis and certifies correctness and completeness, proposes changes as necessary.

  • Identifies and prepares monthly accruals and journal entries to properly account for charges to Division Cost Center.

  • Assists with specific account and general financial analysis requirements

  • Participates in the development, consolidation and analysis of the annual planning process. Works directly with Business Management to review the feasibility of monthly expenses, additional requests, and identification of potential problem areas and assumption needs. Prepares exhibits, supporting schedules and enters data as required. Works directly with accounting to update yearly standard entries.

  • Serves supporting role for internal and external auditors.

  • Ensures confidentiality and integrity of financial data in compliance with General Accounting Principles, Tremco policies and SOX requirements .

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience


  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

  • Prior SAP or Hyperionexperience advantageous

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from four-year college or university and/or 2+ years experience in a similar position andenvironment

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.Working with stringent monthly deadlines; High levels of transactional information to review; Must be able to assist in the quick analysis of a problem;Ability to recognize posting errors and their quantitative impact to financial statements.


  • Organizational Skills:Must be well organized and keep clear concise records; must have high degree of flexibility and ability to multitask.High degree of attention to detail; Ability to organize data and draw relevant conclusions;Ability to recognize what is relevant in reporting requirements to create informative reports for the business unit.


  • Technological Skills/IT: Knowledge in SAP (FI, CO, and PA modules) and Hyperion Enterprise software a plus;Knowledge of US GAAP;Moderate PC skill level, particularly in Excel spreadsheet applications.


  • Initiative:Must be proactiveand look for areas of improvement


  • Teamwork:Must be a team player and have a "can do" attitude
