Reporting to the Director of Maternal Child Health Services, the Lactation Consultant will provide Lactation Education and support to new mothers, infants and the community through Breastfeeding Classes, Daily Rounding, and one-to-one Lactation Services. The Lactation Consultant develops and implements the Breastfeeding Program including Staff Education and Community Outreach and participates in Performance Improvement activities within the department.


The Lactation Consultant will establish goals and objectives for patient care; assist in establishing policies and procedures for carrying out direct patient care; supervise direct patient care functions of FMOS. This is a full time position in which this person will spend 50 percent of their time on the Maternal Child Health unit or in the field doing follow-up. The Lactation Consultant will be responsible for the planning, implementing and evaluating the education programs offered to the delivered women.  

The Lactation Consultant will facilitate the learning process for the family members involved in postpartum, and infant care. The  Lactation Consultant will supervise the management of patient care utilizing critical thinking and nursing process, discharge planning, resource identification, monitoring care delivery, advocating for the patient, care planning and evaluating outcomes.  International Board Certified Lactation Consultant IBCLC certification required.
