Serves as a single point of contact for referring physicians, patients, and caregivers to provide resources and assistance with accessing clinical and supportive multidisciplinary cancer care services offered within Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic States. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical trials for research by NRG, pharmaceutical companies, device manufacturers, collaborating institutions, cooperative groups, and internal investigator-initiated studies. Some travel is required (investigator meetings/training and to Kaiser Permanente medical centers within the region).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists patients in understanding their cancer diagnosis, treatment options, and the resources available.
Serves as an essential link between patients and all other care KP and Non KP providers in coordination of cancer care. The navigator facilitates changes in the plan of care and brokering necessary services (i.e. inpatient, outpatient, etc).
Facilitate appointments for multidisciplinary cancer clinic, consultation, and support services and follow up appointments within the cancer care continuum including but not limited to cancer care clinic, genetic, financial counselors, and supportive care. Emphasize education patient receives at cancer care clinic.
Work with Cancer Care Quality Project Manager, KPMAS Commission on Cancer, and others to collect data, track outcomes, and support strategic planning processes.
Responsible for networking to maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders.
Coordinate and facilitate tumor board(s) and multi-disciplinary clinics. Work collaboratively with cancer care leads, committees, and overarching cancer care leadership.
Facilitate enrollment in clinical trials
Facilitate test and procedure scheduling for patients participating in clinical trials and/or treatment plans according to protocol design
Monitor patient responses to protocol and communicate findings to the physician and health care team; report adverse events to the MAPRI research nurses on protocol, PI and others as required by protocol
Responsible for knowing and following all MAPRI SOPs, IRB SOPs, Kaiser Permanente policies and procedures, and Federal rules and regulations applicable to clinical research
Assist with IRB documentation as required, including initial submissions, protocol amendments, protocol modifications, Adverse Event Reports, protocol deviations, protocol violations, continuing review, and informed consent documents
Assist with regulatory documents required to conduct clinical trials, including investigator CVs, financial disclosure forms, laboratory certifications, radiation safety exemptions, FDA 1572 forms, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's degree in nursing or health related field. Master's degree in Nursing, MPH, Health Education or related field, preferred.
Minimum one (1) year of previous nursing experience; Adult First Aid / CPR; RN license in the three jurisdictions (DC, MD, VA); Minimum one (1) year of related work experience in clinical trials research.
Detailed knowledge of research rules and regulations and Good Clinical Practice guidelines.
Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet applications, and other software applications unique to Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI).
Knowledge of health plan regulatory services and benefit issues
Ability to navigate complex individual benefit issues and considerations.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements.
Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Desired License, Certification, Registration, or Designation
Passing grade on Kaiser Permanente standard medication test
Research professional certification within 2 years of hire (e.g., Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA) or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP))
DOT/IATA certification within one year of hire
Complete Oncology Patient Navigator Training six months after hiring
Complete oncology certifications two years after hiring OR have 36 oncology specific CNE hours every three years
