AFLOAT ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION COORDINATOR
Position Summary:
This is an opportunity to serve as an Afloat Environmental Protection Coordinator in Norfolk, VA. You will serve as a technical and subject matter specialist applying professional general engineering knowledge and concepts associated with environmental engineering and systems for U.S. Navy surface ships.
Contract Requirements:
* Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
* Valid US Passport
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
* Track all fuel spills from SURFLANT ships and ensure that Naval Messages are generated in response. Communicate with stakeholders such as USFF, NAVFAC and NAVSEA to determine root cause of spills.
* Initiate and track investigations when root cause of spills are not determined.
* Track Oil Pollution Abatement (OPA) certifications for SURFLANT ships while working with MARMC, SERMC, NAVSEA and NSWC.
* Participate in the evaluation of ships who are nominated for the CNO and CNSL Environmental awards.
* Work with N7 on ships that are eligible for the Battle E as it pertains to spills.
* Attend Semi-annual EPEC meetings at USFF with NAVSEA, NSWC, NAVFAC, AIRLANT and SUBLANT while representing CNSL to discuss environmental issues and address concerns.
* Coordinate with USFF and NAVFAC on the Semi-Annual Executive and Deck Plate Level Pier Side Compliance training to all SURFLANT ships at Norfolk, VA; Mayport, FL; Rota, Spain; and Manama, Bahrain.
* Attend annual meeting at CARDEROCK with USFF, NAVSEA, CNSP and NSWC to discuss environmental topics and courses associated with shipboard environmental systems and concerns.
* Provide expert advice on environmental equipment, systems, and policy.
* Submit plans and guidance to the N43C Force Engineer as it relates to the environmental processes associated with OPA certification for all CNSL assets in coordination with RMCs as needed.
* Submit quarterly reports in support technical and material aspects of shipboard environmental systems and equipment such as Sewage Disposal Systems (SDS), Oily Water Separators (OWS) and other waste processing systems and equipment.
* Submit update / lessons learned and status of training to CNSL, related to coordination and plans with NAVFAC and USFF, and deck plate level training at NAVSTA Norfolk.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
* Twenty years naval shipboard work experience as military, civil service, or contractor supporting USN surface ship operation and/or maintenance.
* Two years' experience with operation and maintenance of shipboard environmental systems including Oil Waste Systems, Sewage Systems, Waste Water Systems and Trash Systems (i.e., Shredders, Melt Units, etc.).
* Two years' experience in Navy OPA Certification and spill response.
* Two years' experience in conducting and/or reviewing compliance audits, certifications, and assessments.
* High degree of technical skills using Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* Detailed knowledge and expertise of Naval administrative and correspondence policies, instructions and regulations required.
* High School Diploma required, Associate degree preferred, Bachelor's in Science or Engineering desired.
* Two years' experience in developing, tracking, and monitoring metrics and/or conducting deep dive analysis in Naval Engineering subject area.
Physical Demands and Expectations:
* A team player who exhibits a high level of integrity and professionalism in all situations
* Must also be able to work in a shipyard environment and on naval vessels on occasion. Must be able to get up and down ladders and in tight spaces where required.
* Work safely, following government policies, procedures and work practices in a positive, cooperative, and productive manner.
