Job Description:

What You'll Do:


The Assistant Sustainability Manager is responsible for developing and implementing Webcor's client strategies and certifications. As a member of the Webcor Sustainability Team, they stay abreast of the most recent changes to green building rating systems and the policy landscape to teach and train our people. As the knowledge bank of all things related to Sustainability, they support the Sustainability Department Director in being the visionary for the company. They assist with supporting client sustainability goals, the development of sustainability training programs, technical energy guidance, as well as continued improvements to Webcor's internal sustainable roadmap.


Responsibilities include:Lead project team in LEED/WELL/GPR certification set-up, implementation, and execution planning for all new projects. Continuously update template plans and tracking tools for use on projects seeking certification. Assist project teams in administration and documentation. This may include: Review preconstruction specification and instruction to bidders on LEED requirements and partner with the design/engineer team members to ensure sustainability requirements are properly addressed and met. Research innovative construction materials, products, and tools that assist in achieving overall project sustainability, and green building certification goals. Become subject matter expert on proposed and existing policy legislation and provide MEP and ZNE technical and analytical support.


Project Client Support:



  • Act as a subject matter expert to assist all project team's management of LEED-NC, LEED-CI, LEED-CS, WELL and Green Point Rated certifications, conduct gap analyses, and help develop compliance documentation for USGBC/GBCI Certification.

  • Develop objectives, feedback on design strategies, cost impacts, and process implementations in support of sustainability certification efforts.

  • Develop best practices, standards, and procedures related to project goals.

  • Communicate efficiently with clients, executives, and major stakeholders to ensure needs are proactively gathered, and that expectations and priorities are properly set and met.

  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and implement modifications to improve program effectiveness and foster new ideas.


MEP/ZNE Technical:



  • Provide MEP and ZNE (Zero Net Energy) technical and analytical support.

  • Develop a working knowledge of building mechanical systems to support project teams early design feedback, and new sustainable technology opportunities.

  • Lead early design and preconstruction collaboration with the Architect/Engineer and Estimating teams to analyze design techniques and suggest alternative systems.


Corporate Training and Education:



  • Stay abreast of industry news and emerging green building trends to develop new training programs to educate and engage clients, employees, and jobsite management teams.

  • Teach and train all project LEED champions on successful certification implementation process.

  • Build thoughtful reporting and presentations which demonstrate results and earn executive buy-in and alignment around near and long-term projects goals,including PowerPoint presentations, one-pagers, brochures, marketing posters, etc.

  • Find opportunities to participate in expert panels, awards, or article writeups that promotes Webcor's expertise.


Local Policy & Legislation:



  • Become subject matter expert on proposed and existing federal, state and local climate change and environmental legislation (i.e. San Francisco electric buildings ordinance, Buy Clean California Act, Architecture 2030, SB 260, C40, etc.).

  • Participation on committees and policy advisory boards where we can influence in affecting change.


What You'll Need to Succeed:



  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability Management, Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Energy Management, Architecture, or related field required. Master's Degree a plus.


  • At least three years of professional sustainability consulting and/or LEED project management experience, ideally with at least 3 years of experience in sustainability, energy efficiency, or related field.

  • Current LEED AP Accreditation required. Willingness to pursue continued education in LEED, Sustainability and Environmental aspects for project needs.

  • Proficiency preferred, but not required in: Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3), Green building programs and regulations (LEED, CalGreen, Title 24, WELL Building Standard, Zero Net Energy), environmental compliance, environmental management in construction, BlueBeam, Adobe Design Suite.

  • Demonstrated passion for sustainability and strong interest in applying that to the built environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing vendors, clients, and internal project teams to closely track projects and tasks to ensure on-time and on-budget high-quality deliverables.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate complex concepts and build confidence with internal and external stakeholders.

  • A strong and professional work ethic with the ability to handle multiple time-sensitive priorities and excel in a fast-paced, self-directed environment to demonstrate independence and self-motivation.

  • Strong and resourceful problem-solving, yet ability to identify and learn from mistakes to take corrective action.

  • Proficiency demonstrated in: LEED Online, Microsoft (Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Smartsheet, Box.

  • Working familiarity with building science - not necessarily an engineer but must be conversant on building energy systems and technologies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction work site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud. This is a general statement of required major duties and responsibilities performed on a regular and continuous basis. It does not exclude other duties that may be assigned.
