Like to code in Perl, Python, Java or C++ ? Keep reading! We are looking for a full-time DevOps Software Engineer 2 to join the Core Technology Team at our world headquarters in the Kansas City area. The software engineer administers, develops and supports software engineering tools within Garmin's engineering group. .
In addition to designing new software and performing maintenance on existing products, engineers develop software in Perl, Python, Java or C++. They also test software using debuggers, emulators and simulators; perform software releases and software quality assurance activities; and work collaboratively and professionally with other Garmin associates. Other essential functions include:
Create and maintain programs and scripts and automate routine tasks whenever possible
Support software engineering applications installations and upgrades
Support database-related needs for software engineering applications
Collaborate and add value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions
Evaluate, integrate, administer and support new applications
Support monitoring and testing of software engineering applications
Support application server capacity planning, backups and other server-based activities
Support disaster recovery activities
Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
Perform technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems
Serve as a mentor to less experienced software engineers (Software Engineer 1)
Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes, and provide comments on some electrical design aspects

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math or Physics or a technical field (such as CIS or IT) from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of one-year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher. Other requirements include:
Must possess a minimum 1 year of work experience
Experience using Git and Gerrit (or similar source code manager)
Experience with Jira and Confluence as well as Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems
Proficiency writing Python OR Perl scripts
Demonstrates mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)
Bonus points if you have any of the following:
HTML, Javascript or other related web technologies
Apache web server experience
Experience with Artifact repository manager (Artifactory, Nexus, Archiva)
Relational database experience (MySQL or PostgreSQL preferred)
Experience developing in Java or C++
Demonstrates mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)
