Job Description:

Iron Bow Technologies is looking for a Technical Writer with 508 compliance expertise to support our VHA team. 

Responsibilities


  • Develop, establish and maintain policies, processes, and procedures.

  • Collaborate with individuals from various internal functional areas within Veterans Health Administration to generate and review operational documents within agreed upon timelines.

  • Work with VHA to manage the flow of information among project workgroups during development and testing. Understand complex information and communicate the information to people with diverse professional backgrounds.

  • Organize and write supporting documents for products requested by VHA.  Standardize content across platforms and media as identified by VHA.

  • Interview subject matter experts/program specialist to obtain details in order to accurately capture content material.

  • Work closely with the VHA Teams to develop and write content on the telehealth programs and applications.

  • Communicate to the agency's group and subject matter experts in order to understand various aspects before writing about certain subjects.

  • Analyze existing and potential content and make changes in the existing documents to update these as per the latest information.

  • Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and the documentation requirements.

  • Produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.

  • Write easy-to-understand user interface text, online help and developer guide.

  • Originate and revise Supplements, Manuals, training guides, quick guides, training presentations and Standard Operating Procedures SOPs. Recommend and conduct document formatting and reduce the complexity of existing internal SOPs.

  • Adhere to the deadlines and ensure good quality content.

  • Provide expertise and guidance in interpreting governmental regulations, agency guidelines, and internal higher-level policies to assure compliance.

  • Ability to use interactive technologies of the Web to blend text, graphics, multidimensional images, sound, and video.

  • Gather usability feedback from program leads, analyst and subject matter experts to be used in development of documents.

  • Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding.

  • Edit, proofread and provide writing support for content published on project websites.

  • Manage updates and revisions to content on project websites

  • Organize and write supporting content for project websites

  • Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users understanding

  • Ensure documents meet editorial and government specifications and adhere to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format and style.

  • Prepare templates for authors to use in document preparation.

  • Prepare, test, and analyze content (documents, videos, and other multimedia) to ensure compliance with Section 508 requirements.

  • Utilize software tools to identify errors in document structure, headings, reading order, images, charts and tables, and any other document errors as they occur.

  • Create accessible PDF forms.

Requirements:


  • BS Degree in English, Journalism or mass communications

  • Minimum 2+ years technical writing experience

  • Experience creating technical documents

  • Proficient knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Vision and Adobe Acrobat

  • Experience coordinating training programs and scheduling training courses

  • Experience with industry-standard computer design packages such as Photoshop, Macromedia Director, Macromedia Flash and Flash 3D Animator, Director, Dreamweaver, Final Cut, InDesign preferred

  • Good eye for detail, with excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with contributors, designers and webmasters”
