Overview:

Veeco seeks an exceptional Research Scientist with a strong experience in applied physics, high power lasers, optical measurements, and optomechanical component specification. The primary objective of the position is to work on laser spike anneal (LSA), focusing on system-level design,prototype development, and support of customers. The Research Scientist will havehands-on experience in a laboratory environment, instrumentation, test equipment, and design tools. We are looking for someone that has excellent technical judgment,troubleshooting abilities, data analysis, and interpretation skills, as well as a passion for new technology development and creative thinking.

Responsibilities:


  • Become familiar with company products and contribute to their design on system and sub-system level

  • Solve a wide range ofengineering problems and challenges, and develop technology portfolios on the core activities

  • Participate in the design of hardware and software features, prototype integration, and testing of assemblies, subsystems, and systems

  • Work as an experimental physicist on projects from the concept stage through final product design and validation

  • Play a primary role in devising, execution of experiments, and in data analysis

  • Collaborate with optical, electrical and mechanical engineers to develop and implement designs

  • Work closely with technical support and product marketing

  • Design, develop and prototype optomechanical components

  • Experiment with ultra-high precision systems and identify root-cause problems

  • Conduct optical measurements, optical breadboarding, optomechanical component specification, and collect data for analysis.

  • Work with team to understand customer requirements, identify solution space, and identify technology development, maturation, and transition path

  • Engage with customers as the technical expert, help marketing to establish strong technical partnerships at key accounts


Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Physics or related technical field plus a minimum of three years relevant work experience is required. Experience with lasers, low-level programming, and prototyping experience is required. FPGA programming experience a plus. Must be able to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally. Willingness and ability to work in a Class 1000 cleanroom environment for extended periods of time. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

  • Able to break down complex problems with limited data to come to solutions - strong critical thinking capability

  • Have strong written and oral communication skills (customer and supplier interfaces)

  • Collaborative attitude

  • Comfortable with change and ambiguity

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • Experience in system troubleshooting and capability in developing a cross-functional team for issue resolution

  • General knowledge of the CMOS semiconductor fabrication process, particularly in the front end of line (FEOL) process areais a plus

  • Able to work effectively with all levels of the organization
