Chartered with assisting our customers in innovative product designs, the Flex Design & Innovation community are working on cutting edge products across all industries.   Utilizing the latest technology advancements, the Austin Innovation Center, part of the Catalyzing Innovation organization, focuses in broad, open ended problem areas, where requirements are less defined.  This creates a fast-paced, technically challenging environment set for collaboration, innovation, and creativity to generate the products of tomorrow.

Currently, the Catalyzing Innovation organization is seeking a Systems Engineer located in the brand-new Austin Innovation Center located in Austin, TX. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team, work with fellow innovation engineers around the country, and support cutting edge system design and engineering projects.  You will be responsible for requirements management, system architecture design and capture, Proof of Concept design, and traceability from requirements to test and validation for all of the products created by the Catalyzing Innovation organization.  This is a unique role which requires a diverse skill set in multiple engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering and the product experience to successfully drive product development strategy through the collaboration with other technical architects.  This individual must be proficient in Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) methodologies using Systems Modeling Language (SysML).  This individual, along with other technical and programmatic leaders, will be in the front facing group exploring new opportunities, managing technical development and accountable to delivering the final products to the customer.

Here is a glimpse of what you’ll do…


  • Lead the technical architect project team in system design, architecture, and component selection for the successful delivery of products with technical risk in mind

  • Develop system architecture, specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility based on vague customer need statements

  • The ability to capture the conceptual, logical, and physical design of a system using MBSE methodologies and frameworks

  • Proficient in the SysML modeling language implemented with MBSE modeling tools

  • Defines system level risk management strategies based on potential failure modes and mechanisms

  • Leads the collaboration with the other technical architects for the development of the overall system architecture

  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system deficiencies

  • Provides complex system development and consultation to prospective users

  • Interfaces with and leads customer product development calls and meetings that pertain to the product’s overall system architecture and performance specification in coordination with the technical architects.

  • Responds to customer inquiries on system performance as it relates to the system architecture

  • Responsible for systems level development and testing requirements. Approves test reports

  • Provides technical supplier management as related to key system component selection

  • Has broad breath of knowledge across system, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering

  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness of the highest standard and quality of work

  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment and supports and explains reasoning for decisions

  • Understands and finalizes specifications on the design requirements through communication with customers and/or internal project leaders.  Validates that all design requirements are met throughout out the product development and for final delivery.

  • Supports department manager in identifying future technologies

  • Leads the system integration efforts. Participates in design and technical reviews

  • Other duties as assigned. Travel 5-10 %

Here is some of what you’ll need (required)…


  • BS in engineering or equivalent, MS preferred

  • 8+ years of experience in the field or related area

  • Proficient in the SysML modeling language implemented with MBSE modeling tools

  • Experience in multi-level requirements decomposition

  • Writing, and evaluating for, proper requirement structure and content

  • Experience in system architecture trade-off analysis

  • Familiar with a variety of electromechanical design concepts, practices, and procedures

  • Naturally intuitive, capable and tenacious at investigating and solving systems bugs in hardware and software

  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills

  • Strong collaboration, communication, and leadership skills

  • Highly experienced in Design of Experiments and the ability to identify failure modes through test for innovative technologies in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong analytical thinking skills

  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience
