We are looking for a full-time Windows Systems Administrator for our headquarters in Olathe, Kansas. In this role, you will be responsible for efficiently managing technology through the use of tools and scripting. Organizes, leads, and coordinates with other parts of IT to ensure components of overall system are managed. Other essential functions include:
Designs and develops complex, integrated solutions to meet business requirements or enhance performance of Garmin’s windows server computing systems
Performs and evaluates costs analyses and vendor comparisons form small through large scale projects to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations. Measures feasibility of various approaches and makes recommendations
Provides 24x7 on-call support
Continuously develop technical subject matter expertise on established and emerging server, storage, email, file, and collaboration systems and other server-based technologies
Communicate effectively regarding system operations and environment changes
Adhere to SOX, PCI, and other regulatory requirements as dictated
Understands and avoids capacity, redundancy, and health constraints of server, storage, email, file, and collaboration systems
Ensures that all security requirements are met or exceeded
Demonstrates proficient use and knowledge of standards and procedures
Communicates in written and verbal form effectively in a large team or departmental setting
Serves as a mentor to less experienced IT Administrators (Administrator 1)
Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques including performing root cause analysis and identification of corrective action for given problems
Performs and plans minor version upgrades
Uses tools and scripting to efficiently manage technology
Makes recommendations for component level improvements
Identifies interdependencies in system and application components
Coordinates cross team non-project changes
Participates in roadmap planning for systems or applications
Organizes and leads meetings with users of IT systems
Appropriate levels of security access are monitored
Applies Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and exhibits enthusiasm for and a desire to see Garmin succeed
Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor of science OR Master of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another technology related field AND 2 years relevant experience. Other requirements include:
Outstanding academics
Ability to author and implement basic scripting and coding to automate technical needs such as to move files, backup, create configuration, or other tasks
Demonstrates ability to solve moderately complex technical problems independently
Demonstrated experience in successful implementation of technology solutions
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a small team setting
Consistently demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work documentation and organization
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Superior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)
Previous experience working in a team environment
