What we do:

The Markets Group at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York implements monetary policy on behalf of the Federal Reserve System (FRS) and acts as fiscal agent for the U.S. Treasury Department. As part of these responsibilities, the Market Operations Monitoring and Analysis Function (MOMA) within the Markets Group executes transactions in the open market and conducts detailed analysis of financial market developments to support monetary policy and financial stability decision-making processes.

The Mortgage Markets (MM) team conducts agency mortgage backed securities (MBS) and agency commercial mortgage backed securities (CMBS) operations based on the FOMC's directives. We also speak to market participants to gather market intelligence, analyze data, and produce internal research publications to inform the formulation and implementation of monetary policy.

The Treasury Market Practices Group (TMPG) is an FRBNY-sponsored industry group committed to supporting the integrity and efficiency of the Treasury, agency debt and agency mortgage-backed securities markets. It is composed of senior business managers and legal and compliance professionals from a variety of institutions, including securities dealers, banks, buy-side firms, market utilities and others, and meets periodically to discuss best practices related to trading, settlement and risk management in the Treasury, agency debt and agency MBS markets.

This important mission requires the skills of multiple committed professionals interested in financial markets and the implementation of monetary policy. You will support the team's execution of operations and its market analysis.

Your role as Mortgage Markets Sr. Analyst:


  • Contribute to the planning, execution, and analysis of agency MBS and agency CMBS operations, with a focus on ensuring these activities maintain processes and controls;
  • Maintain and improve a range of datasets and tools for operations, analysis, and public reporting. These tools serve as the basis to inform partners in the Federal Reserve system and the public more broadly;
  • Develop an understanding of market data sources that are important to operations and analysis. Seek ways to improve the efficient integration of these sources into the daily work of the MM team;
  • Support market monitoring by managing repository of call notes and market commentary. Keep up-to-date on mortgage market themes and provide summaries;
  • Assist managers and senior staff on the team with projects related to both operations and market analysis focusing on data analysis.
  • Provide support and contribute to TMPG projects, including;

    • Manage arrangements and communications for TMPG meetings and other events;
    • Provide support for drafting and publication of TMPG meeting agendas and minutes;
    • Help write readouts of the TMPG's market discussion for senior partners;
    • Help create tables, charts, and presentation materials for TMPG meetings and aggregate results for prospective surveys conducted by the TMPG
    • Assist the TMPG sub-committees and working groups; and
    • Maintain the TMPG's website and monitor TMPG correspondence.

What we are looking for:

  • Undergraduate degree in economics, finance, statistics, computer science, mathematics, data science, or a related discipline;
  • 3+years of work experience;
  • Experience managing and manipulating large datasets across a range of data sources and databases, Tableau or other visualization software;
  • Knowledge of the following tools or similar software: Python, SQL, VBA, STATA, MATLAB, R;
  • Manage responsibilities across simultaneous assignments.
