As a Digital Engineer II - Merchandising Technology you will be responsible for delivering engineering solutions that address critical business needs within the Price Planning capability area which supports Promotional Planning and Effectiveness, Open Box Pricing, Clearance Markdown Optimization, and Competitive Pricing. This role will work within the product model, collaborating with the product team(s) to develop solutions that consistently deliver working software of incremental business value for our strategic initiatives.

Key responsibilities of the Digital Engineer II:


  • Participate in all phases of the project lifecycle – Architecture, Design/Build, Deploy, DevOps

  • Be a champion for Best Buy’s Tech Forward priorities

  • Bring a proven track record for recruiting & retaining talented engineers of mixed experience levels

  • Provide leadership and mentor both Best Buy employees and third-party contractors to help them grow and realize their potential

  • Strong demonstrated ability to work directly with technical leads, engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders

  • Demonstrate a creative and innovation-driven ability to articulate engineering design patterns related to scale, performance, security, and usability

  • Partner with various product and enterprise teams to review and analyze the strategy for key pricing initiatives

  • Partner with data science teams to understand analytical model development and how to best integrate their data outputs into Price Planning applications

  • Work with architecture teams to align project goals with technology capabilities to finalize a solution blueprint covering all systems impacted

  • Bring an exceptional ability to collaborate effectively on cross-functional projects with various product and engineering teams to identify changes and impacts to all technology systems

  • Provide technology analysis and thought leadership in the Pricing Technology area and apply knowledge of IT systems engineering management to implement the solutions identified

  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on standards and guidelines and the implementation patterns to be followed

  • Advocate for Test Automation strategies and ensure teams adhere to standards when developing high-quality software

  • Bring a passion for building top-quality products and services


Minimum Requirements:

  • 6+ years of professional experience in software development with a bachelor’s degree or 8+ years of the same experience without a bachelor’s degree

  • 3+ years of experience in an Agile-based development methodology

  • 6+ month’ experience in test-driven development (TDD) practices

  • 6+ months’ experience with continuous integration and deployment practices

  • 1+ years’ experience providing coaching, work direction, and/or mentoring to a development team

  • Experience with modern front-end libraries/frameworks such as React, Node, Angular, Material UI, etc.

  • Experience with analytical models and data-driven technical solutions


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Web application development experiences using Java, Spring, REST

  • Experience in implementation and deployment of modern web development solutions including Java, Groovy, Spring, REST-based web services, NoSQL databases, relational databases

  • Designing and developing complex technical solutions at scale

  • Experience using version control systems such as SVN or Git

  • Experience with bug tracking software such as Jira or ClearQuest

  • Proficiency with UNIX/Linux command line

  • Experience with Cloud Computing platforms (e.g. Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Computing Platform, OpenShift, and OpenStack)

  • Experience with retail pricing concepts and application development

  • Demonstrated ability to interact/influence within small and large groups as well as with executives
