Job Description

The Senior Project Manager provides the overall planning, coordination, and direction for project management activities to ensure they meet owner needs, specifications, cost, and schedule. May supervise office/field administrative staff, project/field engineers, assistant project/construction managers, project/construction managers and other assigned staff.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Provide overall coordination of the project until start of construction
• Verify that design is aligned with educational specifications, District standards and Long Range Facilities Plan


• Communicate and monitor compliance with program processes and procedures


• Proactively identify and resolve issues


• Develop and monitor project budget


• Develop and monitor project schedule


• Procure, manage, and oversee performance of Construction Management firm


• Procure District's design phase consultants and oversee consultants' performance


• Review and approve consultant invoices


• Identify agencies having jurisdiction and manage timely review and approvals


• Develop Board agenda items and monitor Board schedule to secure timely approvals


• Attend Board meetings as requested by District


• Chair, conduct and take minutes of meeting which are not managed by other consultants


• Provide timely and accurate project reports


• Contribute to continued improvement of design phase processes and procedures


• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent is required


• Minimum of 9 years of experience as a Project Manager and an additional 3 years of experience as a Senior Project Manager supervising staff is required


• Advanced knowledge and application of construction estimating, cost, project controls/scheduling, documentation, engineering/construction principles, techniques, materials, applications, and practices


• Thorough understanding of contracts, documents, drawings, and specifications


• Experience coordinating, directing, and monitoring activities of construction management staff, contractors, engineers, architects, and related performing entities


• Applied experience representing owner, project and related parties in public forums and meetings


• Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products


• Applied experience in project related systems such as accounting/cost software, scheduling programs and documentation tracking systems


• Experience managing design and construction of California K-12 projects
