Job Description:

Scripps is hiring a Director of Hub Engineering! The Director of Hub Engineering oversees the design, specifications, documentation, oversight and installation of all systems and equipment for the Scripps Master Control Hubs. This position is responsible for ensuring hub operation safety, cohesiveness and responsiveness to all hubbed stations and media outlets served by the Scripps hubs in Indianapolis, IN and Norfolk, VA. In addition, this position is responsible for technical innovation and applications that will foster a stable technical platform in all Scripps Hubbed master control environments.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:


  • Serves as a subject matter expert regarding hub operations and facilities.

  • Collaborates with division leadership in particular areas of common interest.

  • Collaborates with related departments within Scripps operations; in the support of all hub related services.

  • Communicates professionally with individuals and groups within and outside of the hub.

  • Effectively manages the planning, design, installation and repair of all television master control systems, internet and fiber optic connections, satellite uplink and downlink operations, recording and playback equipment.

  • Establishes and maintains air-chain equipment for the TV stations and media outlets in the hub.

  • Provides and maintains long and short form video clip processing and distribution systems.

  • Establishes, builds and supports a group wide OTT ecosystem.

  • Motivates, trains, and leads a staff of professional maintenance engineers and IT technicians.

  • Coordinates projects; manages the scheduling of personnel; and plans, designs and documents ongoing and future projects.

  • Manages capital, expense, repair and maintenance budgets.  This includes current year and future planning.

  • Promotes a positive culture within the hubs.

  • Identifies training needs, motivate and develop staff to meet the on-going and future technological needs of the hub.

  • Ensures compliance with FCC Rules and Regulations with the signals originating from the hub.

  • Performs other duties as needed and as directed by the Sr Dir, Engineering and VP of Engineering.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:


  • A degree in computer science or related subject; or equivalent experience.

  • A minimum of 5 years experience in electrical/electronic engineering.

  • Prior broadcast engineering experience preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:


  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including able to work multiple days, holidays, evenings and weekends.

  • Availability to travel over multiple days is possible.

EXTRA ITEMS:


  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
