Job Description
Position Summary
Responsible for the successful completion of routine and complex cellar, barrel, and sanitation procedures in accordance with winemaking and operational policies to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency and the high quality of all wines produced. A tenacious continuous improvement mindset, teaching ability, and focus on safety are critical to success in this role.
OPERATIONS
Prioritizes, facilitates, and helps oversee cellar and barrel operational.
Helps train cellar workers in the performance of cellar and cleaning procedures and ensures compliance with all operational policies and procedures.
Implements and ensures compliance with company mandated programs and procedures inclusive of, but not limited to, Safety Programs, Advancement Plans, Operating Procedures Manual and Training Program, Inventory Tracking and Control, Equipment and Asset Inspection Logs, Accident/Incident Reports, and basic budget compliance.
Facilities and/or coordinates facility and equipment repairs and issues with the Maintenance Department and participates in capital project planning and execution.
Ensures that all winery sanitation practices, inclusive of but not limited to, general aesthetics, operational, and storage and owns the sanitation schedule compliance and documentation.
Identifies, researches, communicates, and implements process improvement opportunities for safety, operational efficiency, customer service, sustainability, and wine quality assurance.
Determines staffing needs in the area assigned and coordinates to maximize labor resources.
Writes, revises, and updates the Operating Procedures Manual as new techniques and/or equipment are adopted/utilized.
Assures completion of daily performance reports and process tracking logs, analyzing and recommending improvements based on the data.
Performs all levels of wine-work and equipment operation when necessary.
Supports and communicates with all departments influenced by Cellar and Barrel Room operations, including, but not limited to, Winemaking, Safety, Bottling, Administration, Lab, Inventory Analysis, Maintenance, Human Resources and Corporate.
Participates in Company and external educational opportunities to enhance job performance and knowledge.
Maintains knowledge and understanding of hazardous material and safety procedures assuring adherence by subordinate staff.
Ensures proper equipment use, maintenance, and storage for all cellar equipment and completes equipment-tracking logs.
Works with Corporate Safety Manager to ensure all mandatory safety programs are up-to-date and ongoing, and staff is in compliance.
Special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
Researches new equipment, procedures, best practices, etc. when necessary, and develops recommendations
Supports the installation and commissioning of new equipment, coordinates with key stakeholders, and adheres to the management of change process.
Adheres to the cellar, barrel, and harvest budget and plays a role in developing annual operating budgets
Familiar with basic root cause analysis techniques. Able to lead investigations and communicate outcomes.
FINANCIAL
Operates within bulk cellar budgetary constraints and owns management of 10-20% of the budget.
Tracks and monitors employee headcount and makes recommendations for changes in required labor needs.
Helps ensure that adequate supplies, materials and equipment are on hand to support department functions and for adherence to supply/budget targets.
Maintains an accurate inventory of wine additives and cleaning chemicals is maintained in compliance with company policy and the Bio Terrorism Act.
Approves purchases within delegated monetary authority level.
MANAGEMENT / LEADERSHIP
Fosters development of high potential performers through creation of development plans and ownership of the skills matrix.
Monitors cellar activities to ensure that proper winemaking and safety procedures are followed.
Promotes teamwork among operations and all winery personnel.
Trains and develops cellar staff in winery operations, including production planning and continual process improvement.
Serves as a resource and mentor to cellar staff in winery operations, leadership and management.
Demonstrates leadership and professionalism and serves as a role model.
Holds the team accountable to expectations and provides open and honest feedback routinely. Provides recognition for strong performance when appropriate.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS
Winemaking Staff: Communicates directly with the Winemaking Department to assure timely and accurate execution of the Winemaking plan.
Maintenance Department: Coordinates with Maintenance Staff on preventative and emergency maintenance needs inclusive of long term planning
Purchasing: Works with the purchasing team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials.
Human Resources Manager: Advises Human Resources of potential issues that may involve liability on behalf of the company.
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY
Direct authority to make decisions relating to routine activities of cellar and crush personnel
Direct authority to evacuate the facility in the event of a hazardous situation.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum of three years’ experience in operations, manufacturing, maintenance, or related field
Minimum of 1-3 years management/supervisory experience
Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) communication skills preferred
Strong analytical skills
Strong abilities in Excel, especially pivot tables and graphs, data mining and manipulation, and modeling
Ability to allocate resources of personnel and equipment to see that production tasks are performed in a timely, efficient, and safe manner
Knowledge of safety regulations.
Strong organizational, time management, and leadership skills.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
Work Environment:
The lab presents a unique environment that requires performing tasks of a repetitious nature, the ability to change job priorities and the need for speed, accuracy and precision to ensure the highest quality standards.
Works outdoors/indoors.
Works in warm/cold climates.
Works in high places.
Works on wet surfaces.
Is exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals.
Works near moving, mechanical parts and lift truck traffic.
Must be able to move up to 55 lbs.
Primary office environment may be warehouse/distribution setting.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
