POSITION TITLE

Airbag Coating Chemist

POSITION OVERVIEW

Coating Chemist will work as a member of the technical team to develop new coating chemistries for Milliken's Airbag Business. Candidates must be able to work with/and cross-functional groups (development, manufacturing and customers) to develop and promote product or technology introductions. This position can be based in the manufacturing facility in LaGrange, Georgia, or Milliken's Corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC with up to 30% travel to LaGrange, Georgia, as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop next generation non-solvent based coating chemistries for side curtain airbags and flat fabrics.


• Will be expected to work as a project leader in specific next generation chemistry development projects


• Will be expected to work as a part of the airbag development team and see through commercialization of the developed formulations in both internal and external (customer) manufacturing plants.


• Fast paced chemistry development with commercialization in less than 16 months requires strong skills in polymer development and formulations.


• Must be comfortable in handling multiple chemistry development projects simultaneously and work with chemist from major chemical manufacturers


• Must be highly creative and self-starter with strong written and oral communications skills


• This position can be based in the manufacturing facility in LaGrange, Georgia, or Milliken's Corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC with up to 30% travel to LaGrange, Georgia, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

• Bachelor's and Master'sDegree in Chemistry or related field


• Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field preferred


• Minimum of 5 years' experience in basic or applied research or product development (combined academia and industrial) and some level of expertise in polymer chemistry or material science


• Must possess strong technical skills in development & compounding of chemistries, interpersonal skills and be comfortable interacting with a wide variety of technical and non-technical staff
