GPS Manufacturer/Distributor

We are looking for a full time Aviation Systems Engineering Technician for our systems engineering team in Salem, Oregon.

As a Garmin Aviation Systems Engineering Technician, you’ll be empowered to layout, build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify aviation system benches and test equipment, use common lab test equipment in testing and troubleshooting test and equipment failures, including equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers. Other responsibilities include:


  • Set up standard test apparatus or devise test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional tests in order to evaluate performance and reliability of designs

  • Operate software tools used for testing, simulation and diagnostics of aviation systems

  • Track lab equipment and coordinate with the Calibration Lab to ensure equipment calibration compliance

  • Check and/or test functionality of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions

  • Write technical reports, including documentation of the test setup, block diagrams, and test setup schematics to fully document test results and analysis.

  • Maintain project files and notebooks in an organized manner

  • Maintain lab equipment and supplies needed for product development

  • Design and build test harnesses to support qualification and systems testing

  • Write technical documentation of test setups to include, block diagrams, schematics and operating instructions

  • Order parts and equipment as necessary to maintain lab inventory

  • Coordinate sending equipment out for repairs

An Associate Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or Computer Engineering Technology from a technical/vocational institution or a four-year college or university with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA OR a minimum of three years of experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description are required.  In addition, a minimum of 2 years development technician experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description is a must. Other requirements for this role include:


  • Demonstrate strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others

  • Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems

  • Excellent time management and follow-up skills

Candidates with a cumulative 3.5 or higher GPA, mechanical prototyping skills, and/or test software development experience are preferred.
