Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and independent scientist to join a multidisciplinary project team aiming to discover small molecules targeting microbial proteins. These small molecules will be used to test potential treatment strategies in preclinical models and serve as starting points for further development towards clinical investigation. The overall team includes bacteriologists, chemists, molecular biologists, and biochemists characterizing disease pathways and targets, as well as experts in assay development, screening, and chemistry. Overall Responsibility The successful candidate's primary role will be synthetic chemistry, with responsibility for the design, assessment, and successful execution of routes to key compounds needed to support and drive novel drug discovery efforts. Specific chemistry requirements are dependent on the project phase and can involve both the development of routes that facilitate rapid analog synthesis and, when required, the production of key intermediates or final compounds to enable detailed evaluations of compound performance. Specific responsibilities, and characteristic duties, include: * Independent investigation and execution of a variety of modern chemical transformations * Purification and characterization of compounds by contemporary methods (e.g. HPLC, flash chromatography, NMR, MS and related) * The optimization of compound properties as required e.g. potency, solubility, metabolic stability etc. * Close interactions with biology colleagues and collaborators to identify critical experiments for rapid compound progression * Maintaining the highest of professional standards for laboratory safety and record keeping. * The preparation and effective communication of results in oral and written form. Requirements: * Ph.D in chemistry or chemical biology with a focus on synthetic or medicinal chemistry. * Significant experience in cutting-edge synthetic chemistry, with evidence of creative solutions to complex synthesis problems. * A demonstrated ability to complete multi-step synthesis routes and/or multiparameter compound optimization exercises. * Extensive working knowledge of techniques related to purification and characterization of compounds is required. Experience in 2D NMR methods for small molecule characterization is desired. * Candidate should have an outstanding academic record of accomplishments. * Candidate should be an innovative, data-driven, analytical thinker with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Must be highly disciplined and organized, with first class record keeping skills.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
