Pricing Analyst 2 Job Summary

The Pricing Analyst 2, working under moderate supervision, completes work on projects such extracting, transforming, and preparing data; performing rating, reserving, or other financial analyses; developing ad hoc reports and other assigned projects of a quantitative / technical nature.

The Pricing Analyst 2 may assist with the following items depending on their area of assignment.


  • Providing input on pricing of new and existing products.

  • Developing and updating management reports and analysis in support of the Actuarial team and other business partners.

  • Collaborating with other business units in managing business.

  • Preparing and defending state filing materials.

  • Partnering with IT to implement rate and rule changes in rating systems.

Essential Functions (primary functions and/or reasons the job exists in order of importance)


  • Working under moderate supervision, completes work on assigned projects. Follows standard and creates custom processes in assisting with completing the following items in assigned area (e.g. Pricing, Loss Reserving, Research and Development):

    • Providing input on pricing of new and existing products.

    • Developing and updating management reports and analysis in support of the Actuarial team and other business partners.* Collaborating with other business units in managing business.

    • Preparing and defending state filing materials.

    • Implementing rate and rule changes in rating systems.



  • Assists in providing potential impacts, options and recommendations (to Actuarial leadership, business partners) on actuarial matters such as pricing, reserving, modeling or rate implementation.

  • Working under moderate supervision, works on assigned projects of an actuarial or analytical nature under direction of actuarial team members. Completes research, ensures accuracy of calculations and analyses, and meets project deadlines. This requires learning and applying basic actuarial methodologies.

    • For rating systems focused roles:

    • Learning how rating system operates, how to make changes to rates and rating plans and the rate change process.



  • Extracts, organizes, and validates data in support of actuarial analysis.

  • Expands and applies knowledge of and experience with relevant tools, technologies, and techniques to perform analyses.

  • Expands and applies critical thinking skills used in understanding data, business concepts, analytical concepts and/or rating concepts.

  • Effectively collaborates on and communicates work products to actuarial staff and business partners.

  • Develops management reports that are used to monitor performance, behavior, and results of company goals and objectives.

  • Develops and maintains adequate knowledge and awareness of industry activities through reading trade journals and magazines, and through personal contact with other insurance professionals.

  • Travels occasionally in order to participate in special assignments, training, and/or travel between office locations.

Desired Qualifications/Experience/Certification/Education (in order of importance)


  • 2+ years of professional analytical work experience including ability to document and explain basic to moderately complex work products.

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science or related field or commensurate experience.

  • Solid analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience with MS Excel (e.g., pivot tables, v-lookups, etc.) and Word.

  • Ability to collect and analyze data, identify trends, and provide input.

  • Experience with using at least one of the following: Visual Basic, SAS, Python, R, ResQ, Emblem, Remetrica, or SQL.

  • Exposure to basic actuarial and/or statistical methodologies.

    • For rating systems focused roles:

    • Exposure to Ratabase or other rating systems



  • Experience being accurate with a focus on attention to details.

  • Strong organizational skills gained through previous work experiences.

  • Experience working independently as well as within a team environment.

  • Solid written and oral communication skills.

  • Valid driver's license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.

  • Ability to work effectively in an office environment for 40+ hours per week (including sitting, standing and working on a computer for extended periods of time).

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a collaborative work environment utilizing various technologies such as: telephone, computer, web, voice, teleconferencing, e-mail, etc.

  • Ability to travel as required.
