Job Description:

Michael Best & Friedrich LLP is seeking a Deputy Practice Group Managerin ourMilwaukee, Waukesha, Madison, or Chicago office. The Deputy Practice Group Manager would be responsible for ensuring the most efficient and profitable operation of the Practice Group. Under the direction and leadership of the Practice Group Manager, this includes effective daily operation of and utilization of talent and resources in the Practice Group as well as the analytical and project support ensuring success in delivering the Practice Group revenue and profitability objectives.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• Provide analysis for Practice Group budgeting


• Create data and analytical tools/processes useful in tracking Practice Group financial metrics and objectives


• Put together resources for response to client RFPs


• Coordinate the assembly of information for annual timekeeper performance reviews


• Provide information required in recruiting processes related to requesting resources and offer authorizations/ROI analysis for assigned roles


• Create mechanisms aiding in the prioritization and allocation of Practice Group business development budgets


• Coordinate with Partners and Finance & Accounting to identify and resolve billing and collection issues


• Assist with process improvements in structure, process, technology and analytics related to:

  • Matter budgeting
  
  
  • Client/matter profitability
  
  
  
  

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management, advanced degree preferred.


• 5+ years' experience in an operations and/or financial environment.


• Understanding of the financial performance metrics and levers critical to the successful operation of a client centered professional services environment, preferably a partnership and/or law firm.


• Proficient with a variety of accounting, business planning, client management, project management, reporting and tracking systems and related software/SAAS packages.


• Effective at influencing and persuading through informal hierarchies in a matrix environment, managing at times competing interests and priorities for optimal outcomes with both internal and external clients (high EQ).


• Ability to evaluate financial performance data and recommend proactive changes to Practice Group priorities in order to successfully deliver revenue and profit targets.


• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.


• Valid authorization to work in the U.S.
